University pick

I'm deciding between these Universities:

- York
- McMaster
- Waterloo
- UFT

Anyone go to any of those Uni's listed above? Your thoughts? How's residence? I'm leaning towards York because it's only a 10 min. drive from my house, therefore no residence, plus I know a few people going. My second choice would be McMaster, then Waterloo, then UFT. The program which I'm selected for is Life Sciences.

Thanks.

My daughter started at Waterloo University, she was in Bio-Chem and Co-op'ing. It was a great starting point and stepping stone to other places. She now has her Phd and loves her work.

This is what my plan is:

Do my undergrad and then go to Medical school. My ultimate-ultimate goal is to become a plastic surgeon. Right now I'm leaning towards Waterloo actually...but you never know!

Waterloo! I live in Manitoba and most top tiered students (not me...) go to University of Waterloo. I would definately recommend it considering you are going into medicine.

If you want best bang/buck come to U of M. You can get your whole degree done for probably a year of tuition at Waterloo and the provincial government will reimburse most of it if you continue to work within the province. Can't say how it is in terms of the quality of education; but probably much worse.

OK I was thinking this over and I will ask my parents about it tonight...

If I go to York, no residence fee since it's 10 min. drive from home. Therefore, I can save the residence fee money for other things (modding G35 perhaps).

If I go to Waterloo, I will have to stay residence and will have to part with my G35 and leave it with my parents. Hopefully I can talk them into allowing me to get a motorcycle for campus.

Lifestyle wise, I'm leaning towards Waterloo...Education wise, I'm not sure. To me it's pretty even between the Uni's.

i have 3 friends that go to waterloo 2 for mechanical Engineering and 1 for Nano engineering. waterloo by far has the best engineering program, as a well co-op. Its definetly a great school.

The fact that you are even questioning a move out of the house pretty much answers your own question.

I love my parents and I wouldn't mind living with them at all. Heck, when I grow up they'll be living with me .

I have until May 28 to think this whole deal over. Btw. York is offering a scholarship too - $6000 from what I remember).

If you are paying for your own fees York seems like a logical choice (scholarship and no residence fees).York does throw out a lot of scholarships though i got one too but i think it was for $4,000.

Have you narrowed it down to either Waterloo or York, or are you still thinking about the others too?

i think i made my decision on the last day..for me it was May 26th i believe. in the end it came down to choosing either U of T or York.

no offense to anyone here but UW grads seem to get a decent pay job a lot easier especially in Finance , IT, and Engineering industry.
there are countless UW students in their senior years who are already working at Microsoft, AMD, IBM, major Canadian/US banks during their co-op terms.

The point of going to an univesity is to equip yourself so you have something under the belt by the time you graduate .. and hopefully, that will find you a good careeer (with good $) in next 40 years. So if your priority here is how much money you can save so you can mod your car then yeah, York FTW.

IIRC York and McMasters are rated best for their medical related programs, which fits life sciences.
