TPMS for summer/winter wheels

2007 G35x
As some of you know, I just had my summers mounted (3 season FWIW) on separate rims with TPMS. After a week the TPMS light has finally shown up, first with a flashing then solid display.

The tire shop says they need the car for a couple of hours and that the tool has only just been released from Infiniti for jobbers to use. They also said there's no way for the system to know about two sets of sensors. True? If true, thats a PITA for people that want to have summer and winter wheels if it involves a trip to the stealership to have the system re-set after every swap.

There must be a better way...

That is true, if you run two sets of sensors chances are , you have to recalibrate every time you change. Thats why a lot of us don't run them in one set of wheels.

The system will only accept one set at a time.

My guess is that Hyatt Infiniti will charge him a minimum of $60 to recalibrate the TPMS.

As I suspected - doesn't make it any less of a PITA though.

Now, if the stealer offered off-season wheel storage/installation/calibration as part of a spring/fall maintenance program it wouldn't be so bad. As it stands, the car is so small only 1 wheel fits in the trunk, so the other three wheels have to sit on the back seat - really nice on stone leather...

As much as I'm against "more government", there should be legislation to require the TPMS to address two sets of wheels, especially in markets where winter tires are required by law (Quebec).

I'm sure I've read about other auto makers having TPMS that could take more than one set of wheels (Porsche, BMW?).

Whatever - just chalk up another negative in the Infiniti experience...

Yes, I went to a Nissan dealership last year and they said they want to charge me $20 to reset the TPMS.
After a few months of running winter tires, the TPMS light is no longer annoying. I ignore the light now even those I am running the summer 19" stock wheels.

I have a tire pressure checker so I don't need that "bugged" TPMS cr@p.

I just leave my sensors in the winter wheels, I don't mind checking pressures in the summer when it's warm out.

May just leave the flashing light, but I'm pi$$ed about spending $400 for the sensors in the new wheels... If getting the sensors calibrated is less than $40 per time I'll suck it up.

Deane, don't mind my grumpiness - too much stress at work and home right now.
