troublesome trunk swap

did this a few weeks back, finally got around to posting pics...
onemike and I got together as I was looking for a wing and he was looking for no wing... we thought it wouldn't take too long, but man... we had no idea we would need to break out the dremel and cut out the bolts! those torx screws are so easy to strip!!! all in all, it probably took us 4 hours

Things to look out for if you're looking to swap...
  • bring wd-40, pliers, and your prayers, in addition to your torx screwdriver... those torx screws were unbelievable
  • the dampers were tougher to deal with than it looks, really need to pump them down with your full weight, then quickly try to hook it in the right place before they decompress
  • in the end, we ended up at home depot, and got bolts that were about right, washers that were about right, and my trunk's still on you can probably order some proper torx replacments from infiniti
  • in gutting my G, we were rushed, so we snapped a few clips, try to be gentle, it's not too tough to figure out where to pull on as you go, just give yourself ample time

mike hacking away...

shredded torx

everything laid out

gutted G

Swapping out the trunk really isn't that bad. The hard part is getting those SOB OEM screw out. He had the right tool with him though :biggthumpup. I dremeled mine out and replaced them with the 10mm bolts when I put my CF trunk on. Even snaking the wiring out one lid to the other was okay.

Depends on what you call bad. Looks and sounds like a heck of an effort to me.

Kudos for getting it done guys.
