as for cordless mowers, i agree, not practical for a larger yard, at least not till batteries advance further.

i used to repair mowers when i was a kid, probably the best were the old two-stroke lawn-boys. were quieter and smoother than most 4 strokes, not to mention torquier, (had a neat clutch for the blade too, if it were to bog down, the blade would stop turning without stalling, just had to whack the mower to get it going again)
That's good to hear about the regs, although I'm sure they are no where near what car requirements are. Most lawn mowers/chain saws/trimmers etc. are used for many years so it will be quite a while before we see a lot of the benefits of changes. Those two strokers are nasty and pretty inefficient at burning gas. My last two snowmobiles were huge polluters that got between 10-15 mpg. That's much of the reason many are moving to 4 stroke motors.

Back on topic...Sam let us know if you get one and what your thoughts are.

Will it do all of yours, Gord? You have a lot of hay in the back 40 there! I'm thinking of an electric myself, feeling a bit guilty about all the emissions.

You're going to replace your son with an electric one?

B&D CM1200 19" 24V looks like the top contender. ($400) There is one that uses a car like lead battery that's 48V for $500. I'll bite the bullet this weekend.

I got half a quarter acre lot, thats about .14 acre. would it cut that? I cut it with a non self propelled pusher, bagger. If I don't bag it takes about 30 minutes if I do it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours

Yeah, okay. Rub it in. Probably explains why I'm cutting mine and my dad's now.

LOL... with mine it was part of drivers ed.
If they wanted to drive; driving the lawn mower was part of the deal.

My problem now is, one has finished school & the other isn't far behind.
Once they abandon ship, yours truly will once again be on yard duty

LOL, nicely done! No, I think I'll keep him. Another advantage to an electric mower is I could hang it up somewhere out of the way, unlike a gas job.

I'm holding out for a turbo-diesel lawn mower.

For now, my Cub Cadet self-propelled gas hog will do.

Good plan. Yeah, you'll soon be empty nesters.

I no longer have a ride on although my dad's place could use one.
