Need opinions - 06 G35 Coupe Burning Oil

Hey guys,

While since I posted. Been dealing with my oil consumption issue on my 06 G coupe.

Went to Halifax had them start the consumption tests and they agreed to have me take it to Coyle Nissan here in Saint John every 1000 kms to have them check the level, top up and then continue for the next 1000.

They have told me they want me to do this for 6000 kms (which is standard) but not when there is a service bulletin that outlines the issue and the guidelines for a 'not good' scenario.

Here are my results.

First 1000k: down 9mm
Second 1000k: down 8mm
Third 1000k: down 6mm

Down 23mm on a 24mm dipstick which is pretty much a 1L

On the service bulletin it states that in the 1900-2000 Mile range if it is down 11mm it's considered 'not good' and to replace the long engine assembly (new motor) and I am way over this.

I'm getting the song and dance now that they want me to finish out the next 3000k of mileage which without a doubt will take me to 2L of oil in 6k

Then there is the statement that this may be 'normal'. WTF since when is it normal for a car with 38,000kms at this or ANY level of manufacturing to burn 2L of oil in an oil change..

My question to you guys is.. What should my course of action be and why is it that every dealership will give you a hassle on anything major that has to be done when it's is warranty?

I've attached the service bulletin that they seem to be ignoring for some reason...

I also forgot to mention my motor is detonating (spark knocking) like mad while running premium only gas. My rear axles also are clicking badly (but they said there is a service bulletin for this...go fig.)

This trip down Infiniti lane is not leaving a great taste in my mouth..

^the problem with the rev up engine is well documented and Infiniti/Nissan has replaced quite a few long blocks based on feedback we see here on driver.

I'm surprised O'Regans is giving you a hard time on this. It appears you are well within the guidelines of engine replacement.

I will send you a PM.

I think you are way qualify for a replacement.. but on a side note I wonder what is the hit or miss ratio of having an oil consumption problem for 05-06 G or Z

^^+1... i'll never understand why dealer's always give customers such a hard time when it comes to repairs that are 100% documented and confirmed.

i would talk with the service manager first if you haven't done so yet. tell him your concerns and show him the tsb again. if you don't get a satisfactory answer from him.. tell him u might contact infiniti customer service for another opinion.

if that doesn't change his mind then just go ahead and call them (1-800-361-4792) and express your concerns over your car and the level of service your receiving from the dealership. mention the tsb and how much oil your burning.

burning that much oil is not a good thing. i would get it fixed asap.

^ +1........agreed......and keep at them regularly so that you get reasonably quick results, and that they know you're not prepared to be denied warranty having clearly qualified for it.... ....

Colin.

EDIT:
I'm wondering if the dealer that you're dealing with has not got a good rapor with Nissan/Infiniti and that perhaps a trip to the next nearest dealer might help.

It shouldn't be necessary, but if it achieves your goal without losing any more sleep over this, it might be your best solution.

When you talk to Nissan Customer service, you might suggest that as a solution to your issue since the one you're dealing with clearly won't help much, if at all.
FFT, and best of luck to you.....

C.

It's really annoying to hear that your dealership is giving you a hard time. There was a timely article about recalls and Canadian law (http://www.wheels.ca/newsFeatures/article/319265) written by the Toronto Star, and I think it points to what needs to change in Canada. It's absolutely ridiculous that in Canada even after an advisory is issued on vehicle defects, car companies are not required by law to fix the vehicle.

If this law were fixed, i'm sure your dealership would have fixed your oil consumption problem the first time out.

Yeah, I know. It's been a little more than annoying that's for sure. The car will spark knock\detonate under mild or heavy acceleration even while using premium gas too. I have been talking with RBull who is contacting the dealership on my behalf to try and get things rolling.

I always have a fear with dealerships that if you put up a stink and be a difficult customer that they will make your life miserable. I guess it doesn't matter if you approach it trying to be nice.

If what RBull is trying to do with me falls through I will definitely have to step this up a notch. The car is crap to drive right now and the occasional diesel\rattle when shutting it down and the clicking rear axles are driving me insane.

The quality of the mechanical build on this $50,000 car is less than impressive thus far.

Can't wait when I go to sell it....2006 G35 Couple 6MT loaded, 38,000kms Fresh Motor!
