Trying to get my hands!

On one of these. A brand new Land Rover Defender 110 pick-up truck 4x4 with a 2.4L diesel. Cost about 38,000 CDN. Transport Canada has been absolutely useless in providing the eligibility of importing it into Canada. One guy at Transport Canada, I talked to was totally not interested in helping me and threw sarcasm at me throughout the whole telephone call. I almost told him to f-off.
I am currently trying to get in touch with German Land Rover dealership so I can get some info on Canadian Certification and they offer the steering wheel on the left. Looking at picking one up next year sometime.

One day I'm hoping to own either Datsun 510 or Lada Niva or Skyline C10

Good luck getting truck over to Canada!

Interesting looking truck. I just put in a question, via email, to our Waterloo Land Rover dealer as to the possible availability of this truck in Canada. If I get a response I will let you know.

I did contact a Land Rover dealership in Toronto last week and they seemed to be in the dark! I don't like my chances of getting a hold of this vehicle.

All 2008 and 2009 model Land Rovers can be imported from the US. However, according to the admissibility list, all car modifications (most likely daytime running lights and gauge cluster/speedometer) must be done by a Land Rover dealership in Canada. You should check with your local dealership how much these changes will run.

From my experience, the necessary changes for a Mercedes run about $8,000CAD, hopefully Land Rover would charge less.

Wow, isn't that kind of embarrasing to hear of that kind of treatment from one of our public servants (and Canadian to boot)!........

It absolutely shouldn't be!.

Did you happen to get his bosses name?

Colin.

Unfortunately some public servants think they are doing us such a big favour when they are requested to DO THEIR JOB!
I, unfortunately, also encounter this attitude at almost every government office, municipal and provincial, from the many employees I have the mis-fortune of dealing with. I'm just thankful that I don't have to visit them to often.

i hate to rain on your parade but why are you looking for one of these trucks? LR has an absolutely terrible record of quality and they're equally as overpriced.

I have a part-time Mineral Exploration company and think this vehicle would be ideal for access to areas with rough roads. I like the 4 cylinder diesel as well.

^it would probably have the ability to access rough roads no sweat.

I'm sure there are lots of others that could do it too for less money and fewer problems!!

No I didn't get a name, wish I would have. The guy was literally talking down to me.

Thanks for the info. Defender is not available in the U.S. It was available in the 90's I believe and came with a gas-sucking V8. I'm thinking Germany as they must have very high safety standards on their vehicles. As for things like the speedo and daytimes I would be willing to pay those expenses.
