Winter Tires Info - Great White North
So I'm totally new to this site. Sold my rsx type s and bought an 04 infiniti g35 coupe 6mt yesterday and I love it. Just a quick question, was pricing winter tires today and I am gonna get 4 225/55r17's for the g. I got a price of 183 for the nordic artic claw which he said are regular 250 but I've never heard of them or i can go for the blizzak ws-60's for 250$ a tire installed. Just wondering if anyone has heard of the artic claws cause im leaning towards the bg's
Nordic Artic Claw - a.k.a. Goodyear Nordic or Cooper Arctic Claw?

If, OTOH, this is the Cooper Arctic Claw, I have no experience with them.
The knock on most Bridgestones is the winter tread compound is only about 50% of the tread depth - after that point they turn into regular all-season tires.
Just make sure you're comparing 'apples to apples'.
Thanks for the reply. This is from a tire place in Lethbridge not canadian tire, He said 187 installed and balanced per tire so I'm trying to figure out if they are dece. My gut is saying pay the grand for the blizzaks
I installed my new Nokian Haaka Rs on my car last night given that we are forecast to see some snow this week. I'll post my thoughts when I have an opportunity to truly test them.
just installed the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3, ... and I am blown away!, these tires are just amazing, very pricey, but worth every penny. I feel better handling, and easier steering than from my OEM goodyears that came with the car.
The don't look very aggressive for heavy snow, but in the light snow, slush, and street mud they perform amazingly well! ... I love them on my 07G35x

Check out the Ateq VT10 - list price is USD$99 (http://www.tpms-tool.com/TPMS_tool_ATEQVT10.html) - so once you've used it twice it's paid for. I've written Ateq Canada to find out who their dealers are, but no answer yet.

Cycleguy...
Seems like an awesome idea, however I don't see how it programs into the car computer? The web page is rather vague on how it actually combines with the cars receivers and tires transmitters and brings it all together. However if they can prove it works... Im buying one and ordering sensors tomorrow!

Wow... snow!
So I awoke the other day to find much white stuff on the ground.
Time to put on the newly mounted and balanced winter tires. Problem... not really other than the fact that I don't have a jack yet (costco has one I want but the nearest costco is 3 hours away!). SO off to the trunk and grab the old scissor jack. Got the tires all mounted and hit the road.
Ran into a co-worker whom informed me that they had closed one of the high roads just outside the city as there had been so many accidents. Time to be sneaky.
Lets give the new HAKA 5's a run for their money. The road had around 4 inches of snow on it and was tracked from large trucks (F 350's) that had cause huge amounts ice forming from the pack down. Tones of tracks where 4 wheel panic stops just went straight through where they were supposed to turn (the technical term is an 0-****). The car accelerated well, very limited "slip" light coming on and very easy to control, even more so it being a 6 MT and having a clutch. Attempted several panic stops from around 80km/h to 100km/h couldn't make the ABS come on even on hard packed snow (very little ice on this flat portion of the road, didn't want to wreck the car doing this in a corner
). Attempted to make the car break loose through some sloping downward turns any slip was quickly and easily handled by the VDC system in the car.
Coming down a very steep hill to where the road meets the highway is glare ice tracks going into the ditch left right and well, anything but center. A quick downshift and the car handled the very dangerous situation quite well. The abs came out at the very last second as the final stop was initiated.
This is the first time I have ever had ABS come on in the car and I was very surprised how superior the dual track system is to most US manufactures single track systems. The clicking was not violent and didn't really shake the pedal as some american systems do. Control remained confident and not "scary" due to the car pushing your foot. No break loose on the rear.
The skinnier tires worked great cutting through the light snow and the compound combined with the studs easily handled the ice that existed and the traction control VDC was phenomenal even when attempting to make the car do "bad things". For a rear drive car I am truly impressed with how it handled these situations (though with its weight distribution it isn't as bad as some rear drive cars, no sandbags here!) and send big props to Nokian for making such awesome tires.
I cannot recommend Nokian products enough. In this day and age I demand that products live up to their advertising hype (at least); I can truly say that Nokian tires I purchased exceeded not only my expectations but their own advertising hype.
Thrilled.

Keep in mind that the Alpins, being performance rated, will be better on cold dry roads, but will not grip as well as the standard Ice and Snow tires like Blizzak WS or the Michelin X-Ice or Xi2 when the roads get icy or are covered in deeper snow.

Thank you, sir
. I guess I won't look into these. I just can't seem to find any Blizzaks.
