TIcket woes
TIcket woes
I had a ticket on the bloor viaduct to the dvp entrance about 8 months ago. Cop put it down as a 70 in a 50. I went to court today (WICKED DAY) hoping the PIG/cop was not there and boom there he was .. in the cheapest crappiest suit with little leather leprechaun shoes on with a buckle! what a clown.. sitting there all SMUG.
Wanted to just knock him out cold.
anyways I had it at 70 in a 50 with 3 points and a hundred bucks.. got it reduced to 65 in a 50 no points and 30 bucks.
I was wondering now.. how will this affect my insurance if at all .. I was told minor no point offences dont do squat.. but 3 minors total will .
I had a clean record.
ohh well.
there goes the viper!
P.S when do those tickets get erased ?
later g's !!

Re: TIcket woes
I've had 6 minor speeding tickets in about 17 years. Took all to court, won 5 (4 cases dismissed, officer not present; in one case he showed but didn't have my case with him -- dismissed, no evidence)
The one I lost (like yours, he showed) -- I also opted to let the crown reduce to no points + lowered fine. Since only one of mine ended in a conviction (which was a minor -- no points lost), my rates never went up. So hopefully your won't either.
However points or no points, it's still a conviction and all convictions go on the record with the insuranc ecompany.
They stay for 5 years before they're erased. (It used to be 3 years).
The records are supposed to be updated at each policy renewal, or whenever you make a claim, or make any changes to your coverage, buy a new vehicle, etc.
But let them update the records themselves (don't volunteer any info unless directly asked) because they're known to often miss or overlook convictions, especially minors like yours.
In any case, because your conviction's a minor, it normally would not affect your rates until you have 3 of them. So you've got two more get-outta-jail-free cards over the next 5 years ;-)
Having said that, they reserve the right to use less than 3 minors as an excuse to raise rates if they want to (those greedy buggers)... it's been known to happen. For example, if you got 2 minors back to back in one month, say.
Or a minor plus an unrelated accident claim... the premium could go up much more than it would have with just the accident claim alone, due to that one minor.
These days, the cops are more likely to show by the way. Now they get special "court pay" for showing, whereas before they had no financial incentive to show up.
I think they also must get bonuses for wearing fairy shoes...
Anyway...welcome to the "I fought the law and the law won" club!

Re: Ticket woes
After reading the posts, I'll do my best to give a straight answer. As one of those PIG/COPS...you know mose do their jobs well. Others...well even I am ashamed that they put on a uniform and go to work...but that is another by-line all its' own.
As for the ticket...15 over does not carry points...and you don't lose points, you aquire points. In this case there were no points associated with the ticket. If you re-new your insurance when the renewal notice comes in chances are they won't notice. If you go "shopping" around for insurance, they might ask for an "abstract" of your driving record from the M.T.O. If that is the case it will show up. I don't know if they'll hang you out to dry for a 15 over ticket. Some might, some might not. I am sure if they see a trend " a lot of speeding tickets" on your abstract, then you'll pay the piper.
The ticket says on your record for two years, on your abstract for longer...not sure of the time frame.
Now a days even not wearing your seat belt counts for points (2) and those affect your insurance rates as well.
As for the "fairy" shoes...you should have suggested a better place to purchase top quality shoes! *L* Myself...I hope I don't own any of those shoes. Maybe I'll go to court in uniform from now on.
I don't get any bonus for attending court...just overtime pay if it happens to be on a day off...
Hope this helps...

Re: Ticket woes
Hey guys,
Here's some more info on the subject...
The article states that the conviction stays on the record for 5 years, but that's probably the full abstract that Shecky was referring to.

Hi Shecky, thanks for the straight story on "court pay"... when I was in court after reducing my ticket/ fine with the prosecuter, I was talking to the officer who ticketed me (he was a friendly guy) and I recalled he told me that he gets "extra pay" for showing up... he was probably referring to overtime pay I guess. Anyway, thanks again!

Re: TIcket woes
Bad luck with the ticket, bro.
I think you'll find that your insurance co. won't take much notice until the 2nd or 3rd (minor) ticket. You should be ok.

Re: Ticket woes
Well, considering I just came from court and was all sweaty and gross after walkin into to work and cranky because of my own ignorance. I took it out on PIG/cop comment sorta and the cheap suit/shoes.
I wanted to apologize to all cops who put their lives on the line and granted I was speeding and have sped many other times, this one minor is fair enough.
sorry if I offended you or others.

Re: Ticket woes
Dally...no offence taken. Besides, some cops do dress rather cheaply!
We all speed, and given the law of averages, if we speed a lot, sooner or later we'll get caught. I know I've been caught too!
Thanks for the post...but I wasn't offended by it what so ever.
Keep smilin, and happy motorin in yur G.
Be good!
