car is going back - lease is over - need some rubber!

Hi Guys - long time no see!

My G35 coupe is going back to Infiniti on November 21st - I'm getting a slightly hopped up Subaru WRX (not the STI) - it's 220hp, but with the ecutek tune, it will add another 40-60 ft. lbs. of torque according the the Sprongl Brothers that are tuning it (after the 1,500km break-in) - putting it in line (or above) the "WRX 265" (265hp), and close to the STI...though the STI has some extra niceties that mine won't have - like a 6th gear.

Enough about that - I have 20" summers that I'm keeping/selling, and have some worn snows on my factory 18" sport wheels - it's an '03 6MT coupe with the Brembos.

Because it's going back after November 1st, I can return it with snows, or all-seasons - obviously they have to be decent, all the same make/brand, and must pass a safety.

Funnily enough, they told me that in Quebec, they can't return Infiniti's with snows until December 15th...I would argue that they get snow before we do in Ontario, but it works in my favour this time, so I'm shuttin up.

So my dilemma is finding some used, but passable all season or snow tires at a very low cost for the 18" sport wheels.

Any suggestions, or does anyone out there have some factory rubber that is gathering dust in their garage? The issue with buying used tires is getting the 2 different sizes in the same brand/make.

I don't want to dump a bunch of money into tires that I won't be using.

Thank you for any suggestions - it's been a great car, and this forum has been a great source of information...I'll still be a forum lurker even without a G.

Mike

Where are you located? There are a few places in Toronto that you can get some used good brand tires for about $50-$60 a wheel installed and balanced

Hi Mike... it's been a while.

Sounds like the plans you have for the Subi should be fun.
You'll have to come out & show us when you get her done up.

One place you can try is Steelcase Tire, they take in a lot used rubber on deals.
I've done it myself at different times.
Dave Holmshaw is a great guy to deal with there.

I'm in Newmarket, work in Markham - but can go anywhere in the GTA. I called a used place - they quoted me about $60/$65 per tire, but they only had 1 of the 2 sizes that I need, and having 4 matching in 2 sizes used is a bit of a challenge.

I was thinking $250 for the 4 tires would be very good - so your estimated pricing is in line with that.

Please let me know of any places that may be able to help - and thank you for your input...I would like to get the tires this week, so I'm ready to buy if I can find what I need.

Thanks Ian - I'll give Dave a call - and yes, I'll bring the subie out to a meet. Their forums aren't as friendly as the G forum - lots more hard core subie fanatics, so they're pretty serious about everything...I just lurk and look for the information I need....keep a low profile.

Thanks again for the tip!

DONE!

Ian - you da man (again)!

Dave @ Steelcase is all over this for me - excellent pricing - and he's getting my business for the snows for my pending 09 Subie too. Seems like a great guy...and they're 5 minutes from my office!

For once mentioning your name was a good thing!

Thanks again - I knew I'd find a solution here.

Mike
