Used Blizzaks & wheels - Deal or No Deal

Hi Guys/Gals,
<O
I could use you advice on whether or not to buy this set of 4 winter tires and wheels. A good friend of a good friend had used them on his 06 Maxima for one winter. He did not use them last winter at all. They remained in storage.<O</O
They are Blizzak LM-22z (235/50/R17) on 17x7 alloy wheels.<O</O
I am most unsure about the wheels. Are any of you familiar with this wheel? Will the bolt pattern fit the 07 G35x.<O</O
The tire tread depth is about 5-6mm (see pics). Is that good or bad? They seem to be along way from the wear bars but I have also read that the compound of Blizzaks is not great after they get worn down a bit. How much wear is too much for a Blizzak?<O</O
I only drive about 3000km (mostly city driving) over the course of one winter. Sometimes we have little snow and sometimes we get dumped on like last winter.<O</O
<O
He's asking about $1000 for the set. It's negotiable. So does it seem like a fair price?

Don't know much about the rims Paul, but if they were on a newer Maxima they will fit our X. They have the same bolt pattern and close to the same offset as our car.
The tires are a bit wider and a touch smaller diameter than your stock RS-As, but they are within 1.8% which is fine.
The Blizzak LM22 is a good tire, it is more of a performance winter tire than the WS60.

Looks like a decent deal to me.....Just to be sure, why not test fit a wheel on your G (front due to bigger discs) since they are local?

Lots of tread left on them since new they have about 9mm.

Let's hope this reply does constitute as a "ho-hum" answer but I can compare apples with apples here...

I bought a similar set up (17' alloys and 1 yr old Nokians 225-50-17) for $550, they were listed online for $600

I would negotiate down a few hundred dollars, if not then pony up another $200 and get something brand new

Use some other comparables as leverage and save some $$$

I just found out that these tires, when new, can run $280 a piece.
If he has worn ~50% of the usable tread it would seem fair (to me) to give him ~$140/tire.
Is it fair to estimate around $50/rim or is that to low? Again, I know nothing about the original cost of these alloy winter wheels.
That would bring the price of the set to about $760. I don't mind paying what they are worth. I am just not sure about the rims.
I guess it's time for me to ask the owner a few questions.
Thanks Guys!

Paul I would not buy used winter tires if they are 50% worn. I would only purchase used if they had 75% + left on the tread. From what I have read, once they get down to 50% , they have lost much of their great ice traction capabilities.

That's kind of what I was thinking to Wayne. I read somewhere here that Blizzak compound isn't as good as some others once you begin to wear into them a bit.
Even with their current condition, they would be better than the RS-A's.
I will have to negotiate a REAL good deal before I buy them now.
If he tells me (and can prove it) that perhaps the wheels alone are worth $500-600 then it may still be a good deal for me to buy the set for that amount if he will part with it.
He's not in a hurry to sell though, they sat in storage last winter. They wouldn't fit his new MB. It's tough on the buyer when the seller doesn't feel the need to sell. lol
I will give the boys over at Guelph a call and see if they still have some of their deals going as well.
Thanks

As in Guelph Infiinti?

I don't know about that dealership but Oakville Inf. gave me a quote for ~2100 for 4 tires and rims @ 17 inch setup. Never again will I even consider getting a quote from them.

1K is too much for those wheels - i just picked up 4 17's just like those pictured with WS 60's mounted for $1300 taxes in.

i know steelies are ugly, but alloys are a pain in the snow, might be better off trying to find another set but with steel wheels instead, will probably cost a lot less (i see blizzaks around on steelies with more tread for around 5-600$) and be less hassle (nothing like getting shaken to pieces as you realize you forgot to clean the snow out of your rims, again.)

I called the guy selling the set. The wheels are Nissan winter rims purchased from Guelph Nissan . He paid $2200+tax in 2006 (I think he over paid) and will let the set go for $800.
WS 60's are a good tire (possibly better on ice) but they are not Performance Winter tires. LM-22's retail for ~50% more than WS-60's...a fact that the seller will not willingly overlook.
I think I'm going to deal on these. The amount I drive they should last me 3 winters.
