I clearly remember Fram making a sub-par filter in comparison to the rest. After doing my research, the only filter that I will use with a VQ motor is the Japanese built 15208-9E000 filter (the one used for the first generation VQ30DE motors).
Interesting, so where does one get some?

Where do you buy Amsoil in Calgary?

If you open one up you'll see the construction is almost the same as a Fram filter. I think the main downfall is the cardboard end caps. A quality filter will have metal end caps.

They aren't as close as you think.

Thanks for posting. That filter isn't the standard one you get when asking for an OEM filter at the parts desk. Once I learned the difference my subsequent replacements are the 000. It's more expensive. I have since used Mobil1 and am now onto Wix with easier availability.

That's not OEM though is it? I thought the OEM filters had model number 15208-65F00 on them. Here are some pics where you can see how similar it is to a Fram:

It is a different filter that can also work with the VQ, it is the filter that I use. And thank you for posting that link, it shows exactly why I do not use the 15208-65F00.

^several years ago I priced both filters and there was about a $4.00 difference between the 2 Nissan filters.

Ok you made me a believer that all filters are not the same...

Now....Example: If car A uses FRAM synthetic filters and any brand synthetic motor oil compared to Car B that ONLY uses OEM filter and Mobil 1 oil.

Will car B last longer, run better, faster etc… than car A?

I'd say it has a better chance of lasting longer. There are a lot of other factors to vehicle life/performance etc.

Would you use a condom that has a poor CR rating?
I mean it would still protect ....right?
