i was once told by a audio technicial the followings:

all the oem deck arent cd-r competible, so let say, if u r running original cd tracks with a cd lens giving a power level of 2/10 compare to 10/10 running a cd-r. the player's lens will die faster if you are running cd-r all the time. in the 1st couple of years, the cd player's lens will be working fine but its also temperature variant. That the lazer on the len wont be able to shoot thru the cd, and it will starts acting up. Thats why this problem only exist in the cold weather. Plus, this problem will only get worse and doesnt worth a fix.

I think it is about time for u all(including myself) to shop for a aftermarket audio player. Which all aftermarket brands are made cd-r compatible after yr 2004.

I have an Eclipse AVN DVD Navigation head unit that works fine with the stock speakers and AMP. Sound quality is crisp.

I've had ongoing problems with the CD unit. Pauses for a second or more every so often. Now that I think about it, it does seem to be worse in cold weather. I've had the CD unit replaced twice under warranty, in 4 years of owning the car. The current one has started doing it again. I don't use CD-R in the unit.

It was definitely the cold weather. I put a fresh warm CD from the house and it worked fine. The other cold ones skipped, until the car warmed up. What a pain! Bring on Spring!!!

Thank goodness for this site yet again. Not sure why I feel comforted to know that others are experiencing the same problem I am, when I wouldn't want anyone to go through this whole CD skipping fiasco. That said I am glad it is not just me. I will start bringing my CD's inside at night and think about installing another unit. Thanks all.

I have the same problem. The solution? To hell with a stereo, get a nice loud exhaust.

For sure I agree with the cold weather effecting the cd to skip and freeze up. Because mine does it almost every time in winter until my car is warm... however sometimes when I play cd the speakers will fade to one side (either to the right or left). Very strange... it only does that only on CD... help.

So my skipping problem cost me 3000 for a unit and then probably another 1500 in the spring when i replace the speakers and amp. Damn you BOSE!~!
^ LOLOLOL thats your bad not Bose's
