Insuring a Coupe in Canada

I have a tonne of threads about American insurance companies and they usually have the best deals but here in Canada a lot of those companies don't operate.

My question is who offers the lowest insurance rates for a young driver on a coupe? I'm 18 and have been driving a little under a year with a clean record.

I have heard state farm is probably going to offer the best price and I am going to their office on Monday for a quote. Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot. Probably looking to pick up my G on Monday and I am way to excited.

yeah I have american family ins and they have the best rate for me that is..I try calling up state farm and AAA ins to get a price, because from what the letters in the mail I get said I could be saving if I switch.well I'm still with american family,I'm saving $100-150 a month on ins by staying with them..and I'm 33 yrs old.two ticket in the past year..but shop around and get the best rate possible with a good ins company..

I am going to assume that it is going to be very high even with a clean record.
Just open the yellow pages and get quotes from as many companies as you can. Last year at 21 I was paying about $3400/yr with restrictions for no driving to school or work.

When I got insurance for my g35 coupe I found state farm to be by far the cheapest. At 22 I was paying $1,810 per year for full coverage with $500 deductible. Granted I have a clean driving record, was a recent graduate at the time, and had taken drivers training, all of which got me discounts. A year later my premium actually went down (I think its $1,790 now).

I own an insurance agency in Kingston and I can tell you that State Farm has pretty well the best rates for under 25 in my region.
That would be your best bet for a starting point

yikes, some scary numbers. i guess there is an upside to having a crown-corporation (ICBC) as the primary insurance carrier in BC. i pay $1590 with all options & $300 deductibles & $5million 3rd party...and i live in downtown Vancouver. the private companies have never been able to match the quotes of ICBC for optional insurance from my experience.

I a pay $1536 a year for full coverage on my coupe and its been raised to $1656 this year. I have a spotless record and I'm approaching my late thirties. It depends on your age, location and driving record. My company also bases it on all claims for that particular model for a given time period. At least thats what they told me when they raised my insurance this year.

Went to state farm yesterday and got quoted for the 7 months of the year I'll be insuring it. $502 a month. (keep in mind that's canadian) so after it's all said and done that's $3500 for the months I'll be driving. I get other discounts as well though which brings it down to about $3000.

Which is steep as hell, but I am so in love with this car I wish I never test drove one.

But my parents are also going to give me a $1000 a year as they pay my insurance as a part time driver on their policy. But my Dad wants me to get off so he can buy a 350Z, which I am more than happy to get off to have one of those around the house!

So I am looking at maybe $2000 a year I need a better job!
