i also think i might need new compression rods (there's a loud clunking from the front driver's side)

where's the best place to install? is it wise to replace both sides at once, or jsut the one making the noise?

can david on kijiji confirm that the noise from my car is indeed the compression rod before i purchase the part?

thanks

I got Infiniti to confirm that it was the compression rods as the serive guy told me it could have also been my ball joints or spindel... worth the 60 bucks for them to confirm the problem IMO.

Does anyone have a picture of what the compression rod would look like?

If you have a coupe its the aluminum curved piece connected from the wheel assembly to the chassis... its the lowest part fo your suspension almost looks like a lower control arm.

On the seden I believe its black... someone can confirm that for me though Im sure.

Still doesn't make sense to me that this guy works for Infiniti & sells parts on the side.

He probaly steals them and resells them, or gets a serious discount. Someone was saying how you might not have to replace the whole rod only the bushing, is this true?

^ it is 'possible', but not practical.
It's really hard to get the old one out & it usually gets damaged.

No they are getting the parts approved at cost price and marking it up 10% or so. He works at dealer but wouldn't give me the dealer he works at because they could get in trouble and lose their license for selling parts. I don't really care myself because the parts are way cheaper.

No the entire rod needs to be replaced. the bushing can be pressed out but I heard its a pain and no one really does it.

I'm trying to narrow down the source of a noise I've been hearing and think it might be what you guys are talking about.

The sound originates in the front left of the car, toward the wheel well it seems. The sound sounds like a hollow noise... like something is loose, almost a popping noise. I hear it most when going over cracks and small sharp bumps, expecially when driving over brick or stone type roadways. Normally, before this sound started happening, the car would sound solid and tight over these types of bumps.

Thanks for the help!

It does like your your compression rod is gone also. It is a common problem with our cars.

great thread, i just google'd g35 compression rods and now have a good idea of what to look at when my car is on the hoist... i'm not sure if mine are gone but I guess i should take a look as its a common problem with our cars..

as for that guy on kijiji, i will probably get it from him though by now, i'm sure infiniti would've tracked down a person ordering compression rods at cost prices in large quantities... as long as they are the real deal.. i don't care how he gets them!!

No he has been selling these for a while now, and like you said it don't matter how he gets them, they are OEM and they come wrapped.

Sounds good, at least now you feel a bit better by knowing you saved a few bucks.

I'm trying to figure out if it's cheaper to go with David or Riverside:

Conversation with Riverside:

"I have an 04 G35 Coupe.
How much for left and right compression rods shipped to N1R 4B1 in Ontario, Canada?
What is the latest part numbers for these?
Do I also need a seat bolt or something with these? I read something about a "cone shaped" piece that's also required.
Thanks"

"I cannot give out part numbers on these unfortuantely, and we sell these will the cone adapters for the ball joints and they already have the new studs on them.

the price is $310 shipped US to you in Canada.
please pm me your paypal email if you wish to use paypal, or call us"
