I am coming to Calgary on business. I will be staying downtown, June 1st to 5th, at the Holiday Inn Express on 8th Ave SW. (my first time in Alberta). I am wondering what you guys would recommend as the 'must see' things in the area.
I am, for sure, going to rent a car one evening (unless there are tours) and drive west to the mountains. Other than that what do you think?
I hear there are some good Rib places in town
Smugglers Inn???

If it's ribs you want, I'd try Big T's at 2138 Crowchild Trail NW. I hear it's authentic Southern ribs and blues music. I've been dying to try it, but it's a long way away for me. It's not downtown but a short ride on our "C-Train" will get you there for $2.50.
Or MAYBE we can arrange a little GTG, pick you up in someone's G and blast up there for some ribs, blues and refreshments!!
Oh, and definitely take a drive up to the mountains; Canmore or a little further West to Banff.

Be sure to check out Flames Central right downtown. Try and go there when there is a playoff game on. It's a must see for sure.
Calgary tower is nothing special.....
For restaraunts I would check out: "Il Gallo Nero" on 17th or Redwater on macleod trail south.
If your a beerlover try Wildwood Grill.
That's all I got for now

i have never had the ribs just steak and the salad bar is amazing (I am not a salad bar guy I know the jokes were coming). COP (Canada Olympic park) is kind of cool if your looking for things to see in the city. Don't forget the french maid

Dang, I'm toast both nights. Hopefully some of the other locals can meet up with you, but tonight I have to prep my trailer for camping and tomorrow night I have to see a man about a dog.
I'll post about that after Thursday, but I do have a commitment.

Too bad it didn't work out where you guys could meet up. I hope you had a good time anyhow. Did you go to Flames central to watch the game? If not you should check it out thursday.
