I Need your opinions!

Hello my fellow G drivers, I have an interesting topic I would like to bring up and I hope you guys will share your opinions. A really good friend of mine will be buying a new car soon but he is stuck in the dilemma between two cars at the same price.
The New Hyundai Genesis Coupe (3.8 Automatic)
vs
Mitsubushi Eclipse GTP (The GTR looking Grill version)

The Gensis is a bit better overall in terms of performance, interior design & features, but the dilemma is the brand Hyundai.

The Eclipse is simply nice with good looks and reputable brand.

Which cars would you guys choose? and Why?

I would go with the Eclipse, its been around a few years. The Genesis first year and the bugs haven't come out yet.

actually before even thinking of buying a G, i test drove the mitsubishi, I'm glad your friend is thinking the 3.8 version cause the 2.5 is just garbage(felt likedriving a honda civic).

Mitsubishi is really good in terms of interior and the engine ,the new front looks is awesome. even the gas mileage is not that bad. I know they have quiet a bit long warranty km and years. A big however, your friend will have hard time selling the car, re-sale value on the eclipse is sorry to say is really CRAPPY!!!
I only know the Hyundai from reviews and saw the car rolling couple of times. its a nice looking car, the power is good and is definitely lighter than the mitsubishi.by the way genesis uses mitsubishi based superchargers

I actually did a quick check on both cars. here is my findings.

Genesis (3.8 auto) Eclipse GTP

gas mileage: 17/27 , 16/26
HP: 306 , 262
torque: 266 , 262 lb ft
warranty 60.000basic/120k powertrain same
weight 3397 , 3545
0-100: 5.69 , 5.8 sec

i guess interior wise mitsubishi is better , genesis tries to save on cost for not having sat nav and many other options.

i would go with Hyundai just because i know i can get it sold easily if i dont like it. look at the eclipse second hand market, people are suffering like crazy

haha wow musti you really know your stuff, from pictures i thought the interior for the hyundai was better, i also thought wouldn't the mitisubushi have a higher resale value since its a better brand? but hard to say the resale on a genesis coupe would be right now wouldn't you think so?

sign up and ask away.

Hyundai definitely takes it, who wants to rock a Eclipse? the car has more curve then a girl..wtf. Not to mention the resale value on any Mitsubishi is terrible. Weren't they close to filing for bankruptcy a few years ago, because of the recalls they were getting for all models?
If my facts are incorrect, someone correct me.

preferring and buying is different. cause when u ask for people's opinion on which one to drive, they ll go with eclipse cause its been in the market quiet awhile.the new look is better than genesis. genesis is brand new(definitely a nice copy of the infiniti G, look at the sedan the back light are exact copy of the bimmer 5 series) , we dont know if there will be recalls and common big no no errors.

the eclipse is 38K if u go with mitsu canada prices, this is msrp price and a lot of extra options are not included. as soon as that car's ignition has been used once, i dont think u can sell it more than 30K. eclipse is a bit girly , plus the model is on the market for a long time. if they come up with a new eclipse on 2011 imagine the re-sale value

hyundai has pretty bad line up with the Tiburon( so many horror stories till the last tiburon generation, i heard its a bit better, ) so Genesis is going to be a hit or miss. mitsu has really nice engines, has reputation so far.

in terms or resale value, im betting on Hyundai , 1st the car is much cheaper so the spread is less, plus if the reviews turn out to be true its gonna hold the resale value better than mitsu. Mitsu's resale value decrease is obvious , look at auto-trader with the previous eclipse (2006-2009) numbers dont lie.besides u will get more attention when you have the Genesis since you will be one of the first driver

im not a fan of hyundai either however if we are comparing only these 2, I ll go with cheaper and faster genesis.Since its really new, there is more chance to get it sold if u r unhappy.

Why dont your friend go with other models? if he is already agreed to pay big bucks on a sports car, he should go with a model which has better relaibility, performance and re-sale value.

g37,g35 ,350z, lexus IS series, bimmer Z4, even 3.35i (would be 1-2 years old) subaru impreza, evo, old m3,

buying a car is not just enjoying the car but also is your investment (if u r not leasing)

but again everyone's preference is different, good luck

yea its sucks to say that his budget is 35k more or less only, and he is going financing for sure and he defintely wants a new car by doing so.
You opinion is really educational lol!

I would get the model thats lower than the Evo but a step above the Lancer its AWD dive and turbo. I am not a big Mitsu fan but the Eclipse would be my last pick. An Altima coupe would also be better than the eclipse IMO.
