UPS broke my front lip & it was a major PITA to get sorted out.
My new wheels are shipping Fed Ex. ......DPEs choice.
...either way you will get raped with brokerage fees.
That's why I always drop ship to Niagara Falls for large items.

I actually prefer Fed Ex and I'm surprised UPS is cheaper, usually it's the opposite. Whatever you do, make sure direct signature is required with either company. I've used Fedex primarily and had no issues, but there have been occasions where the box came in a lil beat.
The shipper should be responsible for excellent packaging. Using lots of cardboard, Styrofoam, and even the foam noodles used for water play are useful. Wheels should be wrapped with a cloth or something so nothing scratches them either..

I hate UPS. When I had my turbo kit shipped from California to Regina, both of the boxes were broken open. The packing peanuts were going all over the place. They bent my intercooler and dented some other parts.
Fed-ex has always been good to me, DHL has been STELLAR. I'm falling for the new guys for sure.

It's unfortunate that DHL no longer ships within the states, only international now. This was as of 6 months to a year ago. Very cheap pricing, especially for large and heavy items. I shipped a 75 lb battery to Illinois from Cali with no problem.
Also, beware: sometimes shipping companies, even with insurance, will not validate the insurance because they did not pack it. Confirm each time, because I've known a couple people to get screwed by this. And just because you put the amount for insurance, doesn't mean you'll get that. They go by what it's actually worth. In any case, if you're selling for something cheap, put more...you'll be getting the money so if something happens, you get extra in your pockets.

both of them made me bend over and i had no choice but to take it like a man.
for large items however, you CAN get your own broker to deal with the fees etc. but from my experience, though you may save a few $$$, you will spend an extra day or 2 to deal with that.
i would recommend FED-EX from my experience... though UPS did send me a gift basket once with a sorry note for ****ing up my day.. .made me travel 100km to pick up a package (emergency) and told me that it was still on the ****en plane after i arrived.... this is AFTER confirming with them that the package is available for pickup. !!
