Marriages fail a lot more often now because of one thing - both sides are unwilling to sacrifice. Everyone has way more options now, than ever before (or so they think), so relationships just do not last, like they used to.

My advice - try and live with the person for a few months to a few years first before you tie the knot.

^+1 you should live together before you get married, if you guys don't get too annoyed of each other within the first year or two you should then star thinking about it. Most people won't even last that long IMO

Never took any classes, been married for almost 3 years and it's been great. Got a new addition on the way too!

Good luck with the classes and congratulations!

Marriage 101, eh? never heard of it. it's not required in BC i guess. i'm learning through the school of hard knocks since i don't say "yes dear" to everything asked of me.

and as others have stated - living together prior to marriage is a must, at least a year.

^I somehow doubt a year is enough. There's a lot you'll find out about each other down the road few years later....

My wife and I didn't live together but we went out together for a year, separated for a while then went out togeter again for a few years, then we got married. That was 39 years ago.

And David you don't need to say it, I will "Old Fart"

Been married for 5 years. I have a 2 month old. Best thing to do is live together for a bit, that will bring out each others bad habits, and at the end of the day, you will find out if you want to overlook those habits.

Some one said something about sacrifice, that is the most important thing in marriage.

^^ in BC on a beach with 90 friends & family (some of whom are quasi-religious), and catholic church is not mandatory here. that's kinda strange though, are you sure it's mandatory where you're from?

like i said before, i've never even heard of Marriage 101 or mandatory church stuff...i suppose a small municipality with a catholic-bias could legislate this but the Canada human/civil rights might disagree.

I married a Catholic girl but in a United church. We took classes with the Minister that Married us its not really a school like classes just meet with him and discuss marriage and he askes questions that make you think about if you are ready. Trust me I am the last person that likes to go to any of that ****, but I will say it was good it made me think about things alittle different than I might have on my own, I also lived with my wife for a couple years before getting married. I don't think there was an additional fee it was covered with the cost os the ceremony.

PS. don't get married.....and I am happily married for 6 years now I see my single friends and the grass looks much greener
