Block Heater

So it seems my car came standard with one (I got that wire at the front) and I'm really doubtful the previous owner would have installed one.

I'm thinking I might as well use it. So, just wondering around what temperature would using it make a difference? And how long should it stay on?

TIA

Not from around here? Haha, j/k. I plug mine in for 3-4 hours when the temp is going to be -15 to -20 or lower. I put it on a timer so it doesn't have to run all night, which is a bit of a waste. Certainly makes for easier starting, quicker oil flow (and heat to the cabin!) so less wear and tear. Cold starts are hard on the engine for sure.

Well, I'm from Toronto area. None of the cars in my family have had one before; for the most part it doesn't get that cold; a few rare exceptions. I just figured since the G has it already, might as well use it. I was thinking of plugging it in when it's -10. Lol... I know it's not that cold..

My dealer said that all G's coming to Canada had a b/heater installed at the dealer (standard winter package).
I used to plug mine in for about 2 hours unless it's really cold (-20) in which 4 hrs. should do fine.
As Wayne says, cold starts are hard on the engine, so a little prewarm saves ware and tare and also a little gas.

My cars have been garaged in a little warmer temps for years, but back in the Winnipeg days it was a must for a lot of winter nights....and some days.
