State tax when IMPORTING ?????

1- When Importing a G35 from US to CAN some say if you drive it back , you have to pay state taxes,..if you have it shipped ,..NO state taxes. ???

2- when you pay the CAN and PROV taxes,..do you pay them on the ( "US price paid with ex-rate" ), OR the KELLY BLUE BOOK value of the car here in CAN.

THanks

Duty and GST is on the purchase price of the vehicle converted to Canadian dollars. In Alberta we don't pay provincial tax so i can't help you on that and i drove my car back and did not pay any state tax.

1- State tax would only be on a vehicle from a dealer iirc. Differs from state to state as some do not charge sales tax on used vehicles and instead charge it when people register the vehicle in that state such, texas being an example.
2-You pay gst/duty on the US$ price converted to that current days exchange rate at customs.

Ok, now I get what you mean. There is a thing about where the car changes hands depending on the state tax. When I was looking for s2k's in california, I was told to avoid the tax the vehicle would have to be driven into nevada and changed hands there. I guess since the vehicle would not be changing hands in florida this way, no tax.
