24,000km. What is Done

What does the dealer do at the 24,000 maintenance?

When I asked the dealer, they were a little vague about what they do, but did know that it would cost between $340 and $380.

pretty sure this may include some things that i don't want.

anybody had it done with a list of what they did?

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

Dave, I've just looked at the 24k service schedule and when mine is due for it I'd have them only do the first 4 items:
1/ Oil + Filter
2/ Service brakes fr/rr.
3/ Check parking brake
4/ Clean throttle chamber.

I've done all these myself but have tools and facilities to do so.
You may not be so lucky, so I'd have them do those items.

To my mind, these may take 2 hrs to do properly, plus oil, filter, and grease for brake pad pivot points etc.
Be sure to remind them that the brakes are warrantied, and should they be excessively warn, to replace them.

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

yep, i gave them a list: oil and filter, air filter, service brakes, inspect exhaust hoses, fliud levels etc.,

DO NOT WASH, do not rotate tires, do not do wheel alignment, do not reset ECU, do not use fuel or oil addatives.

they said if the brakes are worn to a certain point you get new pads and rotors under warranty. i of course know about that.

last time a dealer cleaned the throttle chamber it messed up th O2 sensor so i said skip it.

FWIW on cars where i used premium fuel, i have never needed to use any kind of injector cleaner.. one was carb 385,000km. the other FI 300,000km.
on my 97 sable using regular things got carboned up at 100,00km.

getting done this afternoon i will let you know how it goes. 401-Dixie

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

Dave, let me know how much you end up paying, i'm hitting 26000km real soon and want to know how much it will cost. Thx.

Also, could someone suggest a complete list of tasks i should ask my dealer to perform while doing my 26000km maintenance? That way i could just give them the list without listening to their service staffs' bs on what should be done or not. Thx

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

Ended up costing $370.
invoice is a little vague...changed all filters, oil&filter, serviced brakes front and rear, inspected belts hoses exhaust.

charged $6.80 for brake clean and $5.80 for abrasive materials.

hate this trend of charging for overhead items. Did they use the whole can of brake clean?? did they use a whole roll of emery cloth??? If they are charging me which they should not, then i should get the unused materials.

they would probably reverse these if i complained but it is not worth the trouble. they count on that i am sure and the small ripoffs add up for them.

I usually use the dealer up to this stage, then go there only for warranty items.

so this will be the last the dealer sees of me for a while..

forgot that i usually take my cars to the dealer for a transmission fluid change at around 40K. so that will be the next last an only time that the dealer will see me.

What exactly do you mean by the warranty on the brakes? I thought brakes were non warranty items. I do remember some type of recall last year on the Sedans where they covered it with warranty, however not too sure on the coupes. Any info would be appreciated.

Infiniti issued a notice to owners that they would be extending the warranty on the brakes to 3 years or 60,000 km. They noted that performance brakes wear faster, but acknowledged that many complaints were noted.

Not sure if the warranty applies to Brembo equipped cars however.

So it will actually be cheaper to tell the dealer to change the brake instead of servicing the brake? Maybe that's what i should do?

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

not to hi-jack, but I am due for my 12,000km service!
I've been trying to call my dealership to book it for the last 2 days!! but the person is either not there or on the phone! wtf.

is 12,000km just an oil & filter change? if it is, should I just go to Mr. Lube?

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

Update!

I got an appt for friday, and the lady on the phone mentioned that they will check my brakes (brembo). what exactly might they be checking for @ 12,000km?

should I be expecting to replace anything at all? I just want to make sure that all I will be paying for is an oil change + inspection.

incase they try to shaft me for air filter or brake pads or some crap like that.

any advice would be cool,
thanks!

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

They will charge more for checking your brake. I am not sure if it's necessary to check @ 12000km. They tell me the same thing before but i just said "oil and filter change only please". But mine is a 5AT Coupe, not sure if it's necessary to check brembo brake @ 12000km. Just tell them what exactly u want them to do before you give them the car key.

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

Brakes are checked as part of 24K. Just had it done yesterday. 178 bucks at the Kingston Nissan dealer, including wash. Apparently I'm down to 5% front pads, so I'm off to Ottawa for warranty replacement in two weeks. 178...300+... Hmm. My friend w/ an Acura always does the biggies at a Honda dealer for the same reason. No 200 dollar car wash, where the owner gets soaked more than the car. Word to the wise. Oh yeah, just about forgot. The 178 included them loading, balancing, and installing a pair of Pilot Sports on the back, too!

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

Dude, I try and avoid the dealer as much as I can, especially Infiniti of Willowdale. Up Till 22,000kms my friend whom owns a Goodyear Certified Service Centre in Richmond Hill has serviced my car, most of which have all been Oil changes etc..I am planning to do the 24,000km/s maintenance there soon. Infiniti of Willowdale seems so out of date, and requires more professional service etc.

Re: 24,000km. What is Done

It is up to the dealers discretion whether to replace or service the break pads etc. as clearly indicated on the NOTICE.
