Goodbye G...Hello ?
Not really, but it's no longer my "project car." I put a deposit down on a 1987 BMW 325. It's a manual coupe in pretty good shape, for my purposes anyways. The interior is an absolute wreck. Some random panels are off but that just means less time spent stripping. The underbody is in very good shape, with some rust on the gas cap and sunroof. Car runs fine but it has a small leak in the brake line somewhere. Brakes will be getting replaced anyways so it doesn't really matter.
I don't plan to be finish the car for a few years. It's going to be used at the track 90% of the time and I want to do it right the first time around. Long term plans are 2500- lbs weight, 5-lug conversion, suspension, paint, etc. And of course a new engine
Not sure when I'll have time to get down there to tow it back but hopefully it'll be soon. I think I'm going to rent a car dolly from U-haul. It's around $75 and seems like the cheapest way to get it back here. Is this probably my best bet or is there a cheaper way (besides driving it)?
Here are some pictures I took when I looked at it the other day.

Sick project what are your plans for it?? be sure to keep us updated!
E30 M3s are sick I find myself dreaming about one more often than not lately
one of my friends just got one I keep thinking about selling the G to buy it off him. E30s are certainly having a recent spike in popularity lately
Here is my friends car it makes me want it every time I see it.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely make a build thread for it. I'd love to have got a M3 but they're too expensive. Maybe one day though
I'll probably start with doing the interior. Strip it, ground down the exposed edges, etc. I found a good deal on a Sparco Evo seat so I might try and pick it up. That's probably the only thing I'll be buying for it soon. By the end of the summer, Id like to be done with at least the interior, rust repair, Z3 rack swap, and maybe 5-lug conversion. I'll probably do a projector retro for "fun" sooner than later. I was thinking about taking out the left inner passenger side headlight and running some ducting to the air intake, haven't decided yet though. I might just wait until the new engine is in. I'm heavily leaning towards a LS1 right now

Yup, it's definitely getting a cage. I'll probably end up starting that near the end of the build. I haven't really come up with a schedule yet. I'm going to start with the cheaper stuff then move onto more expensive stuff. I'll probably be in the US for a few days late summer so I might order some parts to take advantage of the tax/duty allowance. I really have no idea what to order though. Lots of time to figure all that out but I was thinking possible some fuel system components. I'm going to run a fuel cell, just haven't decided what size yet. Right now, I'm thinking no more than 15 gallons. The trunk is perfect to hold it and it should be fairly easy to make a bulkhead for it too.

So I finally found some time to go pick it up yesterday. I ended up renting a dolly from U-haul. It was my first towing something and it was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. Except that we couldn't figure out how to get it into reverse lol. Ended up just putting it in neutral and roll it down. Took it for a quick drive down the street and this is definitely going to be a fun car. All in all, for $500 I couldn't be happier.
I already started doing some work on it. Mainly just stripping and some planning. So far, the passenger and rear seats, some panels, and all the random junk are out. I want to try and have the rest of the interior stripped by the end of the weekend and hopefully get started on tar removal next week. After that, I'm going to get rid of the sunroof. There's a pretty good rust hole on it so I don't want to leave it outside like that incase it rains.
Here's some crappy cell pics I've taken so far. I was planning on pulling it out to take some good pictures but it started raining. If the weather's good today, I'll take some better ones

For anyone who is interested in following the build, I just got the website up and running. Still needs some work though. I should be posting a new update later today.
