G35 sedan in snow

I know there have been one or two posts about driving in snow, but... I am planning to buy either a G35 sedan or an IS300. I am leaning toward the G35, although I can get a better price on an IS300, because I want a manual transmission and don't need all the fancy stuff. One concern I have about the G35 is performance in the snow. I have test driven an IS300 with snow tires and it is fine in the snow. The traction control kicks in when needed, and I would also get LSD on the IS300. For the G35, I have seen some posts that make me wonder whether the VSC and traction control are not as effective as the IS300 mechanisms. Anyway, not trying to dis your fantastic car. I love the power and extra room of the G35. I just want to make sure that if I get good snow tires for it my wife won't fishtail it into a guardrail some time. That is, although I want a fun car, I do live in Ottawa and need to be somewhat practical. We have winter 5 months of the year. I am confident of the IS300 in snow with the proper tires. Are you owners of G35 sedans confident in your cars in the snow with the proper tires on?

thanks a lot for any experience you can pass on

Re: G35 sedan in snow

I can't speak for how they are with snows but I picked up my Sedan two weeks ago in Newmarket and the next day we had snow, then a week of ice.

I had driven a 4x4 Explorer for the 6 previous years and I must say the G35 was much better in those conditions than I expected and that was with the "all season" Bridgestones. The traction control / VDC worked and braking was straight line albeit somewhat longer than normal.

Good winter tires are a must in winters like we just had but I think you too would be impressed.

Re: G35 sedan in snow

I drove the whole winter here in Edmonton with the stock all season bridgestones. I only got stuck once in deep snow on the side of the road where I was forced to park but other than that, only one close call on the roads itself. The VDC kicks in real fast and saved my butt a few times. I'm definitely going with snow tires next year but to tell you the truth, I think I was only able to fish tail it twice, and both times I was trying to.

Thanks for the response, guys. Sounds like the G35 will be good in snow with snow tires on. Now I have to research snow tires and rims. It seems that the G uses a somewhat uncommon wheel size.

Re: G35 sedan in snow

Recommend using a winter only wheel with the snow tires and go down to a 16 inch rim. There are much better tire selections with that. Especially if you like Blizzaks, Gordgee has them on 16's and I will next winter too.
