Hi All...
I am new to this forum, picking up my first G35 Coupe 6MT on Friday. I have a few questions regarding snow tires and rims... I am hoping some of you can help.
Guelph Inifiniti Nissan is selling BSA Rims 17" with LM-22 Blizzaks for $2400.. (a bit much).. however.. the questions is regarding size. The Rims they have provide quite a bit of clearance for the Brembos, however the tire size are 225/50R17 in the Front and 235/50R17 in the rear..
I went on a few websites.. and they show sizes of Blizzak LM22 225/45/18 and 245/45/18 as a recommendation.
I called Niagara Battery and tire, and they told me to use Blizzak WS-50 (which I used before on my 2003 Accord and didn't like) all four the same size 225/50R17.. with Enkei RS6 rims.. ($1900). Using the same size will provide easier rotation they tell me.. but if this is a possibility why isnt everyone recommending that?
Does anyone have a suggestion.. I think the LM-22 is a far superior tire than the WS50.. But I am not sure who to believe regarding sizes..
Tiretrends.com seemed to have good prices.. but don't offer the LM-22's ...
Thanks for any advice you all can provide..

Welcome Roscoepeko - hows Boss Hogg?
Last year I got the BSA 264 17" rims with Pirelli Snowsport W210s 225/50/17 all around for about $2k. They worked out great - check with Jerry at Infiniti of Yorkville.
You'll be ok with either 225/50/17 or 235/50/17 but I would recommend the narrower tire size for the winter.

When I did my research last year we found that 225-50-17 fr and 225-55-17 rr is the best choice for winter in that it is not far off from the stock sizes overall height. Also there is an added bonus of being narrower which is better at cutting thru snow.

While there are many variations, the recommendations you were given are absolutely correct. (I'm assuming the offset on the wheels is around 25mm- very important you check this as the more common 40-ish offsets won't clear Brembos apparently). I went thru this last year, so I know how you're feeling. The big thing for your VDC and speedo, and ABS is to have "revolutions per mile" close to stock. A quick check of Michelin's website for a stock Pilot Sport in 245/45-18 and 225/45-18 shows 780 and 804 revs per mile, respectively, if memory serves. Searching the Bridgestone website (the LM22 is the high-end performance Blizzak) shows darn near the same revs per mile for the 235/50-17 and 225/50-17 respectively. I don't want you to be insulted here, but if you don't know what the numbers mean- 235 is the width in mm. 50 is the profile measured in percentage of width i.e. 50% of 235 in this case, for the sidewall height. 17 is the wheel diameter. The weird thing though, is that you can't just take the numbers and make a circumference out of them, because of manufacturer variations in construction. So the spec sheets on their websites (normally pdf files) and the revs per mile are the easiest way to tell you've got it right. There is also a 16" combo that works for the non-Brembo folks, interestingly. I have essentially the same combo you have been suggested (Pirelli 210 Wintersports instead of the Blizzaks) and while I won't be racing in any Norwegian Alpine rallies any time soon, for mere mortals, it's a great set-up. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Derek
P.S. I got my winter set-up from Harry at BIGWHEELZ, and have nothing but great praise for his customer service. You can check my posts for the story. I highly recommend.

$2400 is a rip off... My dealership tried to get me with $2100.00 for some 5 star no name rims and Pirelli 210's. I ended up getting BSA 264's 17" and Pirelli 210's for $1500.00. Shop around it's worth it... Dealerships make a killing on winter packages!!
