US 05 G35 Coupe - First Winter in Toronto
US 05 G35 Coupe - First Winter in Toronto
Hey all - I've recently moved back home to Toronto (lived in California for 4 years), and brought back my 05 G35 Coupe 5AT purchased in LA.
Finally got the RIV process done (thanks to everyone here with the great advice on DRLs, saved a boatload of cash) and car registered in Ontario.
Got a few questions as I prepare for my G's first Canadian winter:
1) It looks like my windshield wiper fluid mechanism gets frozen when it's cold out (I park on the driveway outside). The fluid is the Rain-X De-Icer from CT, so it shouldn't be what's freezing. It looks like the fluid comes out of the wiper holder on my car - is this the same as the Canadian version? I'm wondering if the mechanism is what's freezing so no fluid is getting out...
2) Winter rubber. I was hoping my all-seasons (that I just bought 6 months ago) would be alright this winter, but who am I kidding, I need winter tires. I searched the forum and looked through the stickies - think I want to go with the Bridgestone Blizzak's (WS-70s or maybe older WS-60s). Lot of talk about Tirerack but after looking into it, looks like it's an American company and you have to get it shipped from the US? Are there any actual tire dealers in the GTA that sell this and install / mount for you? As I don't have rims, just my stock 17's, I think I'm going to get the winter rubber installed on my stock rims, and then come April/May, perhaps upgrade to new 19" wheels + new tires.
Thanks all - appreciate the help. It's so coooooooooooooold, gonna be a long winter!!!

Welcome back to Canada
As far as snow tires go you cant go wrong with Blizzaks, I have WS-60s installed and they run perfectly fine. Im not sure what part of the city you're from but I got mine from Tire World in Brampton, if that helps. My brother swears by his Michelin X-ICE on his coupe but ive hardly noticed the difference if any.
Good luck, IMO you should get them ASAP because the weather is only getting worse.

Thanks for the tips so far all - have you guys used anyone in particular at steelcasetires? They're actually fairly close to where I live. Looking at the website, Dave seems to specifically mention working with Infiniti vehicles, but just wondering if any of you guys have any experience working with anyone specific.
Thanks for the welcome home - good to be back! Altho maybe I should've picked the spring to move back home to ease back into the Canadian climate - amazing how quickly your body gets used to warm weather

^good luck getting acclimated. You'll be back to regular Canadian toughness soon.
I've run 2 sets of WS60's. They work great and surprisingly the handling suffers less than one would expect.

How much did that cost you from them if you don't mind me asking...? just tires or winter rims too...?
Thanks, Jeff
P.s. Welcome back to the great white north ty-chris

Mind you, this is back in 07/08, so not sure about how much they cost now.
Don't rule out the possibility of used. In 08 I bought Blizzaks on alloy rims for $800 (retail for >$2000). They where from a friend of a friend who sold his Maxima.
I put them on last week. This is my 3rd winter with them as I only drive about 5-6k km through the winter months

tireworld - brampton
car kraze auto - mississauga
tires 23 - mississauga
can't go wrong with either of them...I find tires 23 better pricing for the brand names, car kraze better for the no name/unpopular brands.

Thanks guys - appreciate the info. Will see what's available used as well.
Any of you guys have problems with your windshield wiper fluid not coming out in the winter? Literally when I leave my car parked outside, doesn't work, but when I park indoors for awhile (ie. yesterday, parked underground in bay/bloor for a few hours), it works fine.
Might bring it in to a dealership to take a look - have the extended warranty.

welcome to Canada
well this year for the first time i bought winter tires from car kraze, its a place in brampton, one of my buddy recommend them when he got his continental winter tires.
i got myself micheline x-ice2, cost me 840 cash! includes removing my bald tires from my 17s and putting the new ones on, they did fill nitrogen too.(dunno its that special) overall, it was good experience, price was right , because i did the math and getting from tire rack or local dealers was way over 900 bucks not including the service fee for putting the new tires.
i think these guys buy them from tire rack too, but order the parts in bulks so it makes it cheaper for them. im sure the difference i pay is the slim profit.
the tires were made in 2010(thanks to guys who taught me how to read those numbers)
i would personally do no choose any other tire brand other than these ones:
1-blizzaks
2-continental (extremen winters)
2-micheline x-ice2
the price is pretty much same , but continental were the cheapest.GL
