Exactly Sacch .

Porsche thats there main problem. Its actually the same problem with Acura and Honda but RIV will let you go ahead and register the vehicle without the recall clearance letter because they are already aware of the headache themselves and that US honda or acura will NOT provide a recall clearance letter.

BMW is a Definite AVOID AVOID ! ! ! The reason for this is for 1. You have to pay for the Recall Clearance letter .. its in the hundreds something like 400 or 500 its ridiculous. #2 Vehicle MUST BE IMPORTED through BMW. Which means everything will take place through a BMW dealership. So some people .. They ended up having to Change the front bumper and headlights through a Canadian Dealership ! Again because this is through BMW Canada. Day time running lights to set the module they charge some ridiculous amount i believe its just over a grand or so.. Where you can get it done yourself for about 100 bucks.

For anyone whos imported a BMW recently can fill you in with the headache and Over head expense. You will actually save more money just buying it here !!! LoL .

It seem daunting at first, but after doing a little research it is very simple.

I did it myself with the Z4M & it looks like I'll be doing it again very soon.

There are a lot of over-generalizations in your statements
I had no trouble at all with mine.
I got mine done without going anywhere near a Canadian dealer, and I didn't pay for the recall letter.

I have to rethink keeping the G for another year. (sorry Roy)
With my F150 off the road, I need something more versatile than the G.
I have a couple of things in mind but nothing too exciting.

+1 on the generalizations. Definitely some things aren't accurate here at least for all BMWs.

I had no trouble importing the Z4M and didn't pay for a recall letter. I didn't need to change the bumper. I didn't import or purchase through a BMW dealer. I did pay for the headlight switch but less than 1/3 of the money suggested, and in hind sight could have found an much less expensive option.

It couldn't have been much simpler to do.
