Where is the extra $1?

3 men go into a motel.
the man behind the desk said the roomis $30,
so each man paid
$10 and went to the room.

a while later the man behind the desk realized

the room was only $25, so he
sent the bellboy to the 3 guys' room with$5.

on the way, the bellboy couldn't figure out

how to split $5 evenly between 3 men,
so he gave each man a $1 and
kept the other$2 for himself.

this meant that the 3 men each paid
$9
for the room,
which is a total of $ 27,
add the $2 that the bellboy kept = $29.

where is the other dollar?

the math is wrong, the guys didnt pay $27 for the room, they paid $25 for the room and the bellboy kept their other $2. You dont add the $25 and $2, you subtract the $2 from the $27

9+9+9-2 = 25 (each pays 9, bellboy steals 2, hotel gets 25)

2 people paid $8.33 for the room and one paid $8.34 since there's no even way to split a dollar evenly among 3 people. Each got $1 back. Bellboy took $2. Simple math.

$8.33+$8.33+$8.34+$3+$2=$30.

The illusion of the vanishing dollar comes from adding the money the customers paid to the amount the bellboy stole. The bellboy actually stole from the customers, not from the manager, so his $2 is part of the $27 they paid.

Easy way is to follow the money.
Manager has $25
Bellboy has $2
Each Customer has $1
Total- $30

so...
3 men paid $9 each = $27
bell boy stole $2
$27 - $2 = $25 the price of the motel

Why are you so worried about your dollar? Seems like a pretty cheap motel, but just stay somewhere else or tell the bellboy you're wise to his game. ****, i bet the manager and bellboy are in cahoots. Probably a motel 8 isnt it???
