Best NEW 2011 car under $17k

We're looking for a new econobox (3rd vehicle). Kids grow up so fast.
AC is the only required option. Auto or manual is fine. Manual preferred.

What do you guys think is the best deal out there right now (and why) for a NEW vehicle under $17K, plus HST?....please let the opinons fly. Thx

PS. before someone says it, there is no way I am buying a used 280hp G Coupe for my 'new to driving' kids.

You guys can do better than this. There are plenty of experts around here.
And please, tell me why its the best for $17k or less.

I would have said a Honda Civic Sedan DX , it lists for just under $15,000 but then you had to throw in AC which would add another $2,000 which will put it over once you add taxes etc.
The reason for this is well known, dependability, mileage, compact 4 dr, fairly good resale value You can get a few cars cheaper but I tend to class them as throwaway or disposable cars
But I'll have to go back to the drawing board, since it will be too much..

^ that's $17k plus tax...that's ok.
I suppose I should have worded it, up to $17k plus HST. ($19,210)

Good then that would be my choice. You can get some others for a bit less for example: a Nissan Versa sedan. But the Civic would be my choice.

Mazda 2...starts around $14K
Kia Rio 5..starts @14K
Ford Fiesta S Sedan...starting @$12,999

Chevy Cruize $15,495..no taxes incl...

Why don't you look at a used vehicle?

o my goodness. civic for the win! there is no better car in that price range. when my girl friend was in the market for a car last year she got a 2005 civic sedan lx MT, it has been the greatest thing since sliced bread. i hardly drive my wrx/sti cause this car has incredible mileage and decent enough power for a daily driver. also i might add that we both prefer the body style of 2000-2005 more than 06+ but they are growing on me slowly, i guess.
good luck

2011 Hyundai Elantra.... Very good and selling very good here in the States. I know you can get a 2010 for very cheap due to the new inventory!

How about a new Hyundai Elantra? I just saw the new commercial on tv the other day. The new design looks not too shabby actually. Plus it has America's best warranty. It is within your price range as well. My friend actually has one and drove it couple of times. IMO it's a great economical vehicle with practicality & value.

Maybe I am a lil biased since I am Korean. Anyway, GL w/ your search!
