Rising Canadian Dollar

With Bush killing the US economy the US dollar is at a 9yr low and our Canadian dollar is at a 12yr high. The trend is expected to continue.

With our strong dollar, the price of new cars should go down. I wonder when or if we will see this happen?

Since I'm buying a new M early next year, I'm hoping the more bouyant dollar will reflect on prices soon.
Keep your fingers crossed.

I think we're already seeing folks. Compare price for a fully loaded 6MT Coupe on the US and CDN sites. If you were to simply convert the dollar from a year ago, we'd be saving thousands over our friends to the south.

Yes, it is much cheaper to buy in the US. However, we have to pay an import tax (6-7%) on any cars not manufactured in the US. Also, it must be modified to canadian standards (ie. daylight drivings light, km faceplates, and other minor changes). Lots of hassle.

Re: Rising Canadian Dollar

IF the Canadian dollar is not rising as much against the Japanese Yen then G35 won't drop in price much.

Just the US dollar prices will go up.
I don't follow the Japanese Yen price, I think it might have dropped a bit against the Canadian dollar but not as much as the US dollar drop.

Re: Rising Canadian Dollar

I don't think the car price in Canada will go down in the near future, especially for Japanese car. Infiniti's motors are shipped from Japan, i think comparing the Yen/Cnd relationship is more relevent than comparing Cnd/Usd in calculating future Japanese car price in Canada. Yen performed just as strong as the CND, both Yen and Euro reported a higher than expected performance. Since most of Infiniti's cars are directly imported from Japan, the price for our car shouldn't change too much... Also, the inflationary pressure here will only drive the price to go up, not down... (especially for these kind high-demanded model)

I agree the Yen is more relevant for us. The Cnd price will probably not change much but there is a good chance the US customers will pay more.
