custom tune of the g

hey i just want to get your opinions on tuning.

I have done reading on this site and Im getting mixed answers on tuning.
Im just wondering with my current engine mods is it worth me going to get a tune done with an Uprev for example? or any other tuner? I was initially thinking about the cobb but after reading about the discontinuation of their platform for the g i think i uprev is what i would go for.

i have a few buddies that work at the nissan and infiniti dealers and they were telling me that getting a NA tune is a waste of money. I know there have been some ppl in Alberta that got tunes on NA but i'm still not sure what the numbers where.

and the only reason i'm thinking about this i just that i'm starting to get a bit bored. i deff don't have the money to do a FI g but i still want to beef it up as much as possible at a reasonable price

thanks for your advice.

I cant recall Enos gains NA? I think it was about 20whp at peak but the torque gains under the curve were substantial so the car would pull alot harder through out the power band. People seem to fixate on peak numbers though. Maybe Dustin can tell us what his NA numbers were as well? Uprev with dyno tune is $750, 20whp and 20-30ft lbs through out the power band worth $750

Damn, $750!!! Down here you can get that for $500.

I gained about 18hp/20tq with a preset map and full bolt-ons with the Accessport. Unless you can find an Accessport for cheap, your probably better off with Osiris. If both were dyno tuned I'm sure the gains would be very similar though.

I dont think you car drive very far or pay for too many hotels for $250 and if you find something is off or something needs adjustment you have to drive back to the shop to get it fixed

Yes LSI is $750 for a license and a dyno tune. I am not sure if Eno still has access port it already has a dyno tune in it with similar mods but I would still want it checked out on a dyno and that would be about $120-150 for 1hr dyno time most places in Alberta are similar which should be enough time for them to check AFR at WOT.

i have an N/A tuned car with full bolt ons after being turboed and let me tell you getting an n/a tune is only worth if you have some mods to your car. but on the other hand stock power with just bolt ons is really insignificant and without a tune mods are worthless in power and speed. ill give you a break down of whp on a dyno dynamics, cuz i kinda been through it all haha:

Stock G35 5at/m6 non rev up - 210/215whp - 205wtq /200wtq
rev up - 225/230whp - 210/ 200wtq

My tune is: intake, plenum, lightweight pulleys, headers, high flow cats, cat back exhaust and haltech ecu 270whp/ 263wtq.

without the ecu - 246whp 237wtq

the ecu didnt change the power curve at all but all the mods did. much more power in the mid range and low end torque.

just for info to compare on the same dyno:

350z rev up- 235whp
350z hr - 245whp
370z -260whp
g37 at- 255whp
g37 mt 260 whp

my tune was 350$

hopes this some what helps

These numbers are so small. Ughkkkk. The vq should have stayed with the French.

Put it this way, if you want your car to be a bit more lively and fun to drive go for it. But if your looking for all out numbers, your fishing in the wrong creek. If you want more than 260 wheel or so you'll have to drop some big cash with either FI or NA, then again you probably know that already.

As Gord has mentioned above i did the NA route first.

I had plenum spacer, intake, headers, test pipes, exhaust and a UTEC. I was at 250whp before the UTEC and 276whp after installing the UTEC and tuned by LSI.

For the next step NA i think you would need some cams, head work, bigger displacement but for all this money just go buy Sasha's turbo kit and get 400whp. Its the best bang for your buck

I spent over 5 grand just to get 276whp when you can spend a little more and get 400whp with Sasha's kit.

300 wheel is achievable with SG longtubes, street cams, free flowing exhaust, free flowing intake, plenum spacer, and a haltech or something similar with a good tune. A light flywheel/clutch will help as well. Beyond that you'll need to start thinking about hacking together a new plenum and putting a giant throttle body, and porting heads bumping compression increasing displacement etc. If it comes to that you may as well throw away the vq and buy an LS if your after gobs of NA horses.

If I was at your spot I would get the tune, even if you go FI down the road you still have the up rev licence which I think is $500 on it's own.

Or get after Ian to sell you that COBB, I think he still has it.
