custom tune of the g
I never did go through the whole N/A upgrades route, but jumped right in to the whole turbo thing. I probably saved a bunch of money, because like Dustin said, you can spend $5k on N/A mods for marginal gains. At the end of it all, you will more than likely end up boosting anyways.
I have customers that are making about 420whp on a stock block, and after only a year of driving, they are asking about purchasing the larger turbo and building the block. It just never ends, but at least when you go turbo (single or twin) there is always room to grow. With N/A mods there is only so far you can go, and trust me it is never enough.
. You are right, going turbo will be expensive and to many there are more important things to invest in. That is understandable.I lways tell my customers that the kit price is what it is, and that there are other things to consider...like clutch, tuning, gages, tires and those can add up to $2500 in a hurry. Before you know it, you are at $8000.
As of right now I can't commit to paying for a turbo. So what would be recommended a uprev tune or cobb?
Don't get me wrong, I am by no means trying to sell you a turbo kit here. I am just speaking from experience..

I do have an access port but for the life of me the weekend that things went south (pardon the pun) I misplaced it somewhere and have no freakin clue where it is. If I can find it or get it found down there it's spoken for by Keith so it's not really an option.
Besides... knowing what I know now about the difference between the live tuning and the Cobb interface- I like the idea of tuning it while you're plugged into the car instead of having to make adjustments separately over and over again.
I concur with the overall impressions that guys have of what happened with their car when they tuned it with NA bolt on mods. The car, as Cam said "came alive" once the proper adjustments had been made- and I was relatively content with it... Until I got in Dustin's car. lol. Man, that's been an expensive day.
I'd be REALLY hard pressed to find a mod out there that snapped the car up more than the transgo shift kit. Admittedly, I didn't do that until after I had my tune done- and between that and the mods and the tune...
Guys can feel free to disagree with me but I'd be thinking really hard about what should come first between a tune and the transgo. They're both going to cost ABOUT the same by the time all is done... The transgo might cost a couple hundred extra bucks depending on who does the install and if you decide to go with a tranny cooler (which, to be honest, if you're not going to beat your car to death may or may not be necessary)
Not to drag it off topic but believe me- I know how it feels. Like Gord said in another thread- I got really, really tired of having a nice car that continuously was getting pwned by mum's driving minivans full of kids to soccer practice.
So on topic... knowing what I know now about Uprev- not to mention the fact that I think Cam is more familiar with it- I would look into the Uprev solution. Cobb comes with its share of benefits as well- like being able to plug it in to reflash the ECU and multiple maps that you can load. It has a few safety features, some monitoring features... It's not a bad little device but I didn't really learn how to use mine to its full potential. I think you're kind of like me that way- so I'd still lean more towards uprev.
I have to go back and take another look at your bolt ons... but between uprev and cobb I'd go transgo
