HELP !!!!! ... '06 Projector Retrofit on Canadian Coupe
Hi,
Just installed'06 projectors from a canadian car on my '05 canadian coupe. Of course i have the hyperblinking issue (which i thought was the case with the US spec lights), and i have lost my DRL.]
I did some research, and here's the most helpful one i found.
http://boxstr.net/files/6095662_x6nk...r_retrofit.pdf
Now the only problem is that like i mentioned that my lights are off from a canadian car, will this method work for me as well (note that on the first page he has mentioned that "Since US spec headlights don't have a wiring for DRL, we will install one").
My question is, being a light from a canadian car, they should already have the wiring for DRL (for some reason they are not working). Should i still proceed and follow these steps to bring back the DRL?? Is it the same method for Canadian lights too?
I really don't care about the DRL but i do want to get rid of that hyperblinking issue. But i read somewhere that by not hooking up the relays the power is contantly going to the high beam solenoid which in turn will make it fail prematurely. How true is that?
I would love to hear from people who have already done this mod on their Canadian G's and if their projectors ever gave trouble?
Any help would be appreciated. As of right now i feel i wasted my money but at the same time, these lights look soooo much better than the reflectors.
Thanks
Sean

i have a pdf DIY how to convert the us lights to canadian. It pretty much wires DRL up and gets rid of the blinking issue. I think RED used it as well as i did on my previous lights. if you got an email i can send it. i would post it up here but i dont know how and its also not my work. thanks

Thanks for replying though (seems rare in this thread)
could you please explain what you did? I put mine on (us version) about a week about without changing anything around. It only hyperblinks if I have the lights turned off, so since i dont have drls, i just always leave the lights on.

Yes i did but to no avail. All i found was the fix for US spec ones and none for the Canadian version. Anyways last night after completely losing hope in lieu of finding some help here i did my brainstorming, pulled out the electrical wiring schematics and figured out a simple fix myself .... Hyperblinking is fixed but i still don't have DRL which i don't care for too. The way i did it was simple cause i didn't have to cut/solder/relocate/tap any wires. Took me like 30 seconds to do it plus the best part is that the power is not going to the solenoid anymore hence it won't cause it to fail prematurely.

Is your car from US or is it Canadian? What year?
So here's the 30 second fix for the hyperblinking issue on 2003-05 G coupes without any cutting/splicing/soldering of wires. I bought my headlights from a Canadian dealership so i BELIEVE they are canadian version and not the US. People who bought US headlights can try this too. I haven't looked at the schematics for the US version but it should be the same (in regards to the fix for hyperblinking).
OK ... so if your car is Canadian (won't work for US cars)... then you have a DRL/Light Module located right behind your passenger side headlight. It's a small black color box on the left of windshield washer fluid box (white color). That box should slide out to the right and then you will see 2 wires on the bottom. Just disconnect the smaller of the two and you will be all good. This will deactivate your DRL internally and hence you won't have any DRL, but yes, your hyperblinking will be fixed. The DRL module in pre '06 models just messes up the signals for the projectors since 2006+ G's didn't have any DRL module installed. The DRL in post 06 work internally within the headlight itself. When projectors are installed on 03-05 coupe the DRL module sends the signal to the high beam solenoid and creates a NC (Normally Closed) circuit, but doesn't light up anything since the high beams are a part of the low beam and they are not turned on during the day. It creates a short circuit for the signal light (makes the ECM think that the bulb is burnt/not even there). By disconnecting the wire you will prevent constant flow of power to the solenoid and it won't wreck it prematurely, and complete the circuit for the blinker. Make sure you cover the naked wire with something (i used electrical tape) cause if water goes in there, it can mess up your ECM. Also, make sure the bigger of the two wires is intact with the black box cause that carries your main signal for all the other lights in the headlamp assembly.
Now my signal lights work like a charm and i don't have/don't care for the DRL. Trust me ... the car looks so much better in stealth mode .. lol. I always found DRL pretty cheap looking on cars anyways.
This method worked for me but i don't take gurantee on it. So don't hold me for it if you mess something up
Let me know if you want me to post some pictures if you are not sure of the black box we are talking about here. Don't mess up anything

Good stuff man. has anyone else tried this. I obviously didn't do enough searching and rewired my harness. But if this works then thats a super easy fix.

The re-wriring and everything was just scaring me cause i had a brand new set of headlights. Also, most of the fixes were for people with US headlights and who wanted DRL. Well this fix will work for getting rid of the stupid hyperblinking issue for sure. It will most likely work for Canadian as well as the US headlights.
So i had to give up the idea of making a nest of wires and looked deep into the wiring schematics for our cars and bingo... this worked like a charm
LOL ... were your lights from US or off a Canadian car?
