Should I buy G back Salvage?
A friend (the one that got me into the G) suggested I buy the G back as salvage from the Ins. and part what's left out. He said the Salvage is probably 10% of the paid claim and he feels I could recoupe some $ so as to be able to get another coupe.
Some of you may remember our first Show and Shine meet at my brother in laws, he has agreed to store it at his place (Keel and Steels) until and while I take it apart. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else done so?

It would kill me to have the wreck sitting there & picking the carcase apart.
JMO Sam, but I would just rather move on.
It would also depend on how the car was damaged whether there is much to salvage.

In the US you need to show all the parts that were quoted to be replaced. Sometimes you need a VIN number that goes along with that part. There is usually a final inspection too.
If you got the skills to put the car together and can get paintwork done cheap then maybe. I would also want to see the measurements of the car on a frame machine first. You dont want a twisted car that gets welding up and pulled wrong.

Sam, for the amount of kms on it the tranny and motor are going to be valued pretty low, it's also missing a front end.
I highly highly doubt you could even make back 50% of what the insurance company is going to buy it out at.
Don't buy it back unless you plan to rebuild it you won't make the money you want out of it and you'll need to sit on a parts car for months.

who is your insurance company?
get a price for the salvage and offer it up on here for resale... if it's low enough i am sure someone else will buy it.
Impact gives insurers a very low rate for salvage becuase they bear the cost of towing, inventorying and managing the parts etc. etc. etc. so you may be surprised at how cheap it is.
I can find a place to put the thing if necessary.

ah okay, i work with Aviva all the time and i also was insured with them and bought back a salvage car when i totalled an S13 a few years back, it's a straight forward process, they simply short pay the cheque they would cut you otherwise.
find out what the price is... you're the only one that will be able to buy it other than their salver of choice so you may be able to buy it back and flip the whole car on here. they may very well tell you that for $2,000 you can have the car back... you would just have to tow is somewhere. if you have brembos on the car you'll make half your money back right there.
talk to the body shop you took the car too and ask them to send you the pictures. incidentally, where did the car and end and where is it now?

No brembos. It's at Queensway auto body in Kitchener.
theres some parts that would go extremly quick and many youd have to sit on.
a smart thing to do would be quick go thru all the WTB's in the driver marketplace, 350z marketplace, kijiji, and craigslist.
From there u can estimate if theres enough interest in the parts you have left and weither it adds up to the buyout, and after that everything you sell will be a profit.
this would gave you an extremly rough estimate of weither its worth it or not.

call Aviva and ask how much to buy it back... then we can continue the rest of this conversation properly.
Heard good things about then but you should take your accident cars to CARSTAR Waterloo from now on. Best shop in the KW for that stuff and an Aviva Premier too
... dont take a car for a paint job though, they'll tell you to beat it

Take it to a shop and have them strip it and catalogue the parts then list and sell .
If you (the owner) tries to strip it , it alwasy takes longer and is harder to part with things including the shell.
Strip and dismiss
