Question Gas Guage not reading full...

Hey guys,

I seem to be having a problem with the fuel guage in my sedan. During the last two fillups( @ Sunoco) the guage doesn't read full. It sits about one notch below the full mark.
Has anyone ( esp in the Toronto area) had this problem?
I know there have been some posts in the past regarding this matter but my situation doesn't seem to be quite as bad as the others. Is it possible the sending unit in the tank is starting to malfunction?
Does anyone know of a possible cure( I don't want to make another trip to the dealer if I don't have to)?

Thanks for the help

Once your gas pump stop pumping into the gas tank, sometimes it not really full, it just stop pumping. You gonna have to twist the pump to 20-45 degree angle and then fill her up again... and then it'll be full. Try this and see what happens... other than that... take it to your dealership and have them check.

I have had the problem 2Xs, it is a known problem. Usually, the fuel guage sensor is replaced. Take to the dealership, they should replace.

Bill, My g/gauge has been like that for some time now (maybe 3-4 months).
Strangely, of late, it now goes right to the top again (when full). So whatever is causing the issue is intermittent.
I've read that our gas causes a problem with the gas sensors in the tank which in turn causes poor readings.
If it doesn't go back to normal, the dealer will have to replace the pickup, float, and sending unit apparatus in the tank. A common problem.
Another trip to the dealer UGGG.

Thanks guys for your insight!!!

I noticed this morning on my way in to work that the guage had moved up closer to the "full" level. I will keep my eye on this problem. Hopefully it resolves itself.

Cheers,

Its a common problem. I went in for 2 sender units and then they replaced the gauge. Alta Infiniti knows this prob all too well, your dealer should as well.
