New winter wheels don't fit :(

I thought it would be a good idea to do a test fit on the fronts (because of the BBK) before the snow flies. Good thing I did because these don't even come close to fitting over the front brakes.
I called Bast and they are going to remedy this somehow but as it sits right now it looks like their favoured supplier doesn't have an alloy needed for this car. I may go with steelies.

Can anyone shed some light why a wheel with a little less ET/Offset shouldn't clear the Akebonos? Are the Akebonos that much bigger/fatter than the previous Brembos? Perhaps it also has something to do with the shape/angle of the spokes and the small lip.

OEM front wheels are 18x7.5 OS45. These TD-2 winter alloy wheels are 18x7.5 ET40

http://tirediscounter.ca/alloywheels.html
These are all the wheels they offer...not much unfortunatley. The wheel they sold me is the TD-2. Sadly, after I called them back the first time, their supplier had told them that the EK-2 will work. I told them it's not the right bolt pattern. I'm beginning to worry a little.

Bast said they will refund all the money, the wheel money if I just want to get new wheels somewhere else and they will remount them n/c.

18s over Akebono are real tricky to fit.

ET isn't the only thing to consider.
the shape of the face/spokes & actual clearance in behind vary quite a bit.

A wheel that is more concave with spokes that finish out to the edge of the wheel barrel is what you need.
...more like this one

The other alternative is spacers, depending on how close they are to fitting.

3rd choice.
Throw the snows on your OE & get something else for summer

MSW Type-2 18" wheels clear Akebono brakes.

If the steelies he ordered don't fit (and I have my doubts) I may tell him to put the Michelins on the OEMs.
I wonder if 20" DPE's will clear these brakes?

thanks.
I know there are plenty of wheels that will fit. I'm more disappointed that these guys and their supplier basically assumed that if they fit with Brembos they fit with Akebonos.

Ouch , what a disappointment Paul, I think this is a sign or an omen.

I think it is all telling you to go with the winters on your OEM rims and purchase a nice set of aftermarket rims for summer.

Hey I know where you can get a sweet set of very gently used high quality rims at a great price. I think they were Dynamic Performance Engineering wheels.

^ Yeah, I think I saw some of those somewhere.
A test fit may be required. I don't trust anything to fit over these darn brakes now.

I HATE steelies, they make a nice car look like crap. So 5-6months a year your nice car looks terrible. In my opinion do winter tires on OEMs and get a nice set of wheels for summer. So the car looks good in the winter and really good in the summer I do realize not everyones budget permits it but I think a little extra cash to get nice summers over steelies or aftermarket alloys for winter is the way to go if cash permits it.

I agree. My first two kids had braces and have nice straight teeth. I'll just tell number three that hers are straight enough, she's pretty and daddy needs new wheels

I like the idea of putting the new winter skins on the OE wheels...

These ASA wheels fit on my BBK equipped sled - not sure which ones they are but the PO said he had a b!itch of a time finding 18's to fit over:

Barely room for a pencil between the calipers and spokes.

I have my fingers crosses for straight teeth my little ones it is still too early to tell. Not to mention the cost of winter tires alone for 18" or larger wheels. My wives OEMs are 225or235/30 18" they are almost $1200 for tires alone

could you toss on a spacer to clear them? Might be worth looking into.

No, they would need about a 1.5" spacer and would then probably poke.

Well, it looks like I'm waxing up my OEMs. They're mounting the winters on them Wednesday. On a possitive note, at least I'll have my TPMS for the winter.

Bast Tire has been extremely apologetic and accommodating. I got the refund for the returned wheels and parts. Now they are going to un-mount my OEM tire, the winter tires and then obviously mount/balance/install the winter tire on the OEM rim. N/C

FTR, they showed me the recently published wheel suppliers book and they have the 18" wheel I bought listed as 'Fits G37 (w Brembo)'. Do any G37's have Brembos (OEM)

Sounds like you should be looking for wheels that fit the G37S or 370Z 'Sport', those have the big 14" akebono brakes (isn't that what you have?). I think the non 'S' version has brakes similar to the 07-08 Sport Sedans (13.6 front) or non sport Z packages (friend has a base model 370, and is is buying the 14" akebono's separately to upgrade). I'm guessing his stock 18s won't fit either once we installed those big brakes lol.
