Proper mirror adjustment

How many have tried this one? I've been using this method for more years than I care to admit and swear by it.

That's the way I adjust them. You don't need to see the flanks of your car, they'll always be there. It's more important to see what's around you in case you need to make a quick lane change.

I've always adjusted my mirrors this way. Defintely the safest way!

I do adjust mine so I cannot see the flanks of my car, but they seem to recommend setting them even wider than that. Might have to try that out. Should be easy to do while stationary, and use various objects in the rearview to determine the field of view.

Placing smaller convex mirrors on the regular ones works just fine for me.

Mine are adjusted using that method as well. I can't see the sides of my car in the mirrors. Why would I want to, they ain't gonna sneak up on me like that freakin Prius.
Funny you posted it, Jim Kenzie just ranted about it on Motoring TV a week ago.

A good way to tell if your mirrors are correctly set. Park at a club just around closing time, nose in. If properly set, you can see the hottie stroll across one outside mirror, appear in and cross the center one then stroll across to the opposite outside mirror. If you lose sight of her at any time, the mirrors are set wrong.

Honest, that's what the instructor said...

Funny you should say that. It was an instructor at a BMW Advanced Driving school, wayyyy back in 2001. Reinforced the settings I'd already been using for years.
