Cool Has anyone tried plasti-dip to their wheels?

I've gone through the DIY of coating OEM rims with plasti-dip in the parent forum. Also watched some youtube videos on it. My G35 coupe is black and I've been on to painting the grille and rims into matte black. So, has anyone tried it in Canada or any shop in GTA does that for you with low cost?

I know from other people of the forum that powercoating professionally would produce a better result. But that's almost $500 for 4 sets of wheels. I got a quote from Union Rim of $135/wheel.

Now, I use my 19" OEM rims just in summer. So, if I plasti-dip them; I'm not gonna use them in winter anyway. But do they last through auto high-pressure car wash? What are other cons of it? Please, share your thoughts and do post your pictures if you have done in past. Moreover, where can plasti-dip sprays be found in Canada?

4 sets of wheels or just 4 wheels? I have a friend in the powdercoating business and it would be much less than $500. PM me and I can give you the details if you're interested. He's located in the cambridge/kitchener area.

my friend did it on his genesis coupe wheels and it looks really good, i did it to my grille and it hasnt gotten damaged at all from high pressure washers. even if there is damage you can just spray another coat.

I've used plasti dip a little - mostly on grilles/wiper stalks, etc... but I've seen it on wheels quite a few times. It looks good if the wheels are taken off, cleaned, and scuffed. It seems durable too; I have pressure washed without issues. It's hilariously easy to use. The downsides are if you don't get 100% coverage it will chip, if it does chip and you don't fill it will continue to peel, and the cans aren't cheap.

If you want a hassle free job just powdercoat them, but plasti dip is a nice alternative if you think you may change the color/'finish of the wheels every couple years.

I bought plasti dip from lowe's for $5 and did my emblems and grille. All you need is 4 cans (1 can for each tire) and do it yourself. Trust me anyone can do it. Just look up a how to on youtube and you'll be happy you dont spend $500 for a $20-$25 job.

I'm flirting with the same. However, I want to do my lights too and I think I'd rather use paint on those.

Ive had my wheels, grill, and emblems plasti dipped for about a year and a half with no problems. After i applyed the plasti dip i spray painted my wheels a brownish color just to try something different.

Here is before i spray painted the plasti dip

That's exactly what I'm going to do, except for paint spray. I assume black Plasti-Dip itself would look matte black unless I want gloss black.

By the way, has anyone tried this without taking the wheels off? I've watched a Youtube video last night where they do it by wrapping the brake rotor & caliper with masking tape (or something else I forgot).

Thanks Illuminati for sharing. It looks great.

Dude, it takes 3min to take a wheel off and you don't even need tools (they're in the trunk).
