Used prices in ON vrs AB

Just wanted to make sure what I'm seeing is normal. In looking at 07 sedans the average prices in AB are the low 20's but in ON it's below 20. I'd say there is a $3-4K delta.

I was thinking I might be able to use the prices in ON to negotiate some sellers down in Calgary. But if this is normal than maybe I can't. And if this is the defacto way it is, is this mainly because of economies of scale with ON being a much bigger market? Was the showroom sticker price lower in ON to begin with? Or did the ON cars depreciate faster than AB? It's kind of frustrating because I thought the AB sellers were all asking too much in the first place, and then I looked at ON prices and sure enough......

Alberta is typically high in most used vehicles I have looked at, Que and Ont are usually fairly cheap.

If I was selling a car and you tried to leverage the value of what I was selling vs one in Ont I would tell you to get your plane ticket and enjoy the week spent going to pick up your car.

By the time you fly there and likely take someone with you, pay hotel, meals, gas and the time it takes the $4,000 savings is likely less than a $1,000 not to mention the time it takes and if you need time off work to go get it not worth it IMO. I would look at maybe BC and Sask but that's as far away as I would go unless you run the math and save several thousand dollars it might not be worth it.

I'm interested in a 07 X sedan in Sylvan Lake. I assume you live there and might even know of the car I'm looking at. It's on autotrader. Used to be on kijiji. It's been for sale for long time. Maybe I can negotiate them down.

I could arrange a business trip that has me go thru Toronto Pearson. That would get me there for low cost and then I could drive it back myself. So it's doable from an expense or savings perspective. But it could be a real hassle buying out of province. And getting an inspection done ahead of time on whatever car(s) I'm interested in. Sounds like a real pain to try and do it this way.

I've been looking at BC and SK but there isn't much available and the prices are pretty much on par with AB.

It's frustrating. Maybe I'll just have to bide my time and wait some sellers out, hope for a desperation sale, or if all fails, pony up an extra couple of grade.

If it has been for sale for awhile it wouldn't hurt to look at it and make an offer lower than they are asking. They might take it if they really need to sell it.
