Thats good to know intgr8r. I pass through there, and have stopped to look at their cars quite often. That is good if the lube turnaround is that fast without an appointment.

As long as its documented & they use approved products, you can get it done at Joe Blow's arround the corner if you want.

Personaly, I am getting mine changed at the dealer. I think it helps to maintain a relationship, for when you need them to go to bat for you.
I bring my own oil (Amsoil) & they supply the filter, I think it's $35 - $40. My dealer has a quick lube bay, no app't req'd. I can drop in on the way home, never had to wait more than 10 min.
....or you can do even do them yourself if they are documented and you keep oil/filter receipts.

They have 12 dealerships and counting. They just bought BMW also and own the Permashine franchises too. I foget the exact number but Atlantic Progress had their 04 revenues in the $200 million range.

It is incredible that Nissan/ Infiniti dealer prices range from $23 - $60. I'm surprise there is no standard. $60 is very pricey for non-synthetic oil. Do they infact do warranty inspections during every oil change? If so, I likely will go to the dealer and pay the premium. If all they do is change the oil, I can get Mobil 1 synthetic at a local shop for $60.

I always thought the warranty inspections were done only every 12K and they are not free. They charge you over $200 for what ends up being an oil change. At every 24K, the cabin filter has to be replaced. I believe all fuilds should be flushed at every 48K. Any other time, I refuse to pay anything more than an oil change.

Sorry, above is not meant to bash the dealerships. I'm just frugal and want to ensure my money is well spent. I prefer going to the dealer for peace of mind on the warranty services. However, I do not want all the extras.

Also, do you have to ask for the loaner cars? I have been to Agincourt twice for warranty repairs where they had my car for 2 days. They never offered a loaner. I heard Lexus dealerships treat their customers like gold but found nothing special at Infiniti.

jandc - my local shop raves about the Motul 8100 oil. They indicate I can run 15000 KM before the next change. However, there is no point as it will void Infiniti's warranty. Personally, I didn't notice any quicker / smoother starts. Also, no improvements on mileage. Therefore, I can't justify another $100 for my next change. People also talk highly of Mobil 1 synthetic which is much cheaper in price (about $35 for 4.4L).

Meridian - the synthetics have these longer interval ratings but I still change mine every 3 months. I don't understand it because the filter needs to be changed and I'm not sure if you can change the filter without draining all the oil. I honestly don't notice any difference yet, but I make a lot of short 5-10 minute trips and drive hard so for me it's more peace of mind. I understand it may be overkill, but I plan to keep the car for as long as possible so it's more of a long-term engine care. I'm frugal too but when it comes to my health, family, and $50k+ car I spare no expense!

Warrantee intervals must be maintained regardless of which type of oil is used.

But when warrantee is no longer a concern, & you decide to run longer drain intervals, the oil filter should still be changed on the normal cycle.
The filter can be changed without drain down, you will just loose what's in the filter. Just top up your oil level when done.
Anyone running extended drain intervals should get a lab test done periodically to ensure the engine is properly protected.
There is a good site where members post their test results.
It's a good benchmark to establish intervals for the VQ.

I have a Mazda Miata 1990 with 190,000km. I just did a top end rebuild on the engine to change the head gasket and port match the head, intake and exhaust. I have been using Mobile 1 Synthetic just after the break in miles. There was no sign of wear to speak of. I verified with the "blue printed" specs and a micrometer. Also, the cylinder hone marks were still present and in fine order. I am very happy with the product.

Also, I agree with changing the oil at regular intervals as contaminents do find their way into the oil. Afterall, the engine is just an air pump. So, some dirt, however fine, will get in. With synthetics, I believe that low viscosity is fantastic and a non issue (your engine will certainly last longer). The real issue with regular oil changes is to remove the contaminants.

I think one of the best features of synth oil is that it clings better,
& maintains it's viscosity better in cold weather.
= less wear on startup
