To claim or not to claim, that is the question..

Long story short.... G was parked....douchebag backed into front bumper and didn't leave note..... my buddy saw it happen and took down his license plate

Barely no damage, possibly a minor scratch...didn't even notice it until buddy told me

If I claim then I can get a fresh coat of paint at least

Negatives of claiming - (1) title will no longer be absolutely clean, (2) $500 deductible if insurance doesn't accept proof it was the guy's fault, (3) although he's a douchebag, I don't want to have to charge him with hit and run

what you think I should do??

**** him.

His choice to hit and run. Charge him.

If your friend witnessed it and wrote down his licence plate, and there is corresponding damage on his car, you won't have to pay your deductible.

Plus, you get fresh paint.

charge him. i had someone back up into me before and that small scratch turned out to become a pretty big hairline crack and it def screwed up the alignment between the fender and the hood too.

If he hit you. File a police report and have him located by the cops. Then sue his @$$ for the hit and run and make his insurance pay for the damage. You don't have to mention anything to your insurance. He hit you, they have nothing to do with it. Make him pay.

Same thing happened to me:
https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-cou...rking-lot.html

Except I did not see who hit it.
Had I seen it, I would have made him pay around $500.
I was going to use that money to take it to a detailing shop to get rid of the swirls on the car, not even worry about the scratch.

After I washed the car and waxed it, it is almost impossible to tell.

so get him to pay if you have the time and patience to deal with it, otherwise leave it

i went pretty much same thing, some cab driver decided to grind my driver's side door when doing U turn(i know its cab, because of the crappy blue colour on toronto cabs) i decided to keep it like that not worth going for claims. at least u know the guy who did it. besides its his fault so shouldn't be any deductible.
i realized nowadays if u go as a new client to another insurance firm they are giving u awesome deals, we had 2 cars(1suv ) with belair direct paying 400 bucks, td meloche monnex offered us 250 for both !!DOMO
if u r complaining about ur insurance btw check out competition these days, seems like they r desperate for business.
