A bad day just became a lot worse..need suggestions...

So I finally decided to take my 19" rays in for re-finishing and my buddy @ the rim shop tells me 2 of 4 rims are slightly bend. no biggie he was able to repair that.

Then he drops the news, saying 1 of the bend rims actually has a crack on the inner lip running down abt 1 to 1.5 cms.

He says not to worry abt it that much, he can weld it. But i have a feeling the structure of the rim is compromised and even if he welds the crack, whats stopping from the crack spreading over time. And this is the front rim and if the rim fails on the highway..im sure im going into the barrier straight on

so i think i will have to get a replacement from somewhere. so I have

- Put my an ad on Kijiji, hopefully there is some 1 out there who has a spare 19" Rays (19x8) sitting around that they wanna get rid off. (dont c much chance here)

- I called the junkyards and 1 of them can get me the rim, but it would cost me upwards of 2 bills and i would have to refinish it to match the other 3 rims...

- Checked ebay, not much option there..i saw 1 for 150 but it was the rear wheel

- Checked the private listings here. (no dice)

So suggestions guys.

It seems i mite have to give up my rays and go aftermarket. But i like my rays and dont really have money burning in my pocked to buy after market forged light weight 19"s.

so not sure wht to do.

actually the weld will be as strong or stronger than the rest of the wheel... welding isn't like
gluing or patching... its actually fusing the material together... an old trick to widen a rim
is to cut along the inside and weld in a ring of similar material. The pros make it look so simple

^ What he said.

On the farm, I've seen welds hold up better than the metal around it. It all depends on how well of a welder your friend is.

As other said, clean fracture weld will definitely hold.

For example, these are worse than yours by a tonne!

Just make sure he's not an idiot and tries arc welding it.
