Well keep on the lookout man. Sales happen, and you just have to be vigilant. My mom just got a brand new Trek hard tail for $350 on clearance. So it isn't impossible. Just a bit hard to be patient, at least for me.
Found one!! I whent to Buffalo and found an awesome deal on a Diamondback, 29" wheels, Aluminum light waight Frame, adustble shocks and other stuff that I don't know about. Its a friggin BIG bike.

Ya I had a feeling you guys would be saying that, I'll post a pic later today. My weekend has been so busy I didn't even get a chance to ride it for any length or time, I just took it in front of the house for a bit to test the gears and make my comfort adjusting..... Man I need to get more padding on the seat!!

LOL it's a bit late (been 2 years) but I say better late than never. I kept the Diamondback for a Year then wanted to go Locking shocks but it was going to cost me more upgrading the Diamondback rather than upgrading the whole bike so I sold it and bought the Giant. Locking forks, hydraulic brakes rides amazing can't wait to start riding again, been out a few times already but stupid Canadian weather can't make up it's mind.
The Giant is a solid bike and will allow you to grow into the sport.
I've been racing a carbon Scott Scale over the past year and it has served me well. I love the head angle, it's not twitchy in the corners, but climbs like a goat!
