6 Disc CD Changer Issues on 04

I am hoping some of you have some suggestions.

Recently my CD changer stopped working. All of the other controls work (AC/Radio/tape deck/Temperature) on the console.

I've read up on the forums and internet that your only choice is going aftermarket for the entire stereo unless you can find someone selling a cd changer/old unit. I'm not finding anyone selling the old unit so I think my only choice is after market.

Can anyone recommend any shops in the GTA that they have had audio work done?
Did anyone have the stock navigation and get an aftermarket system and still have the sound from the navigation work?

Anyone have any thoughts on the Metra kit that is sold if replacing the stock stereo system? Is it worth it? Is there any other options if you were to replace the entire stock stereo system?

I have a 2004 with Navigation.

Thanks.

I just replaced the stock system with the JDM DD and P2400BT because of the AC controls issue. You can either do a halfway with the Metra kit or do it properly with the JDM kit.

As somebody that barely cares about car audio, I have to say that it does hurt your wallet quite a bit but the ability to add more 21st century tech is probably worth it - BT, Mp3, iPOD, video and sound optimization even with the crappy Bose amp/speakers.

If I was to do a replacement on a 'budget' i'd go with the JDM DD and single din.

If I do decide to sell my old Bose, i'll let you know (03 no NAV, 6 disc changer). Last time I used the CD player it still worked but I didn't use it for over a year (likely still has the original demo CD from the guy that sold me the car).

You're not kidding, the JDM DD is at least $100 more than the Metra kit just as a start.

Where did you get yours?

Is the dual climate control button available on the JDM kit? I'm checking it out on eBay and it looks like its missing. I would like my car to look as original as possible. Do you think you could send me a picture of how your set up looks?

I called around a few places and this one place S&S Electronics in Scarborough said they may be able to fix the 6 disc CD changer, so I am thinking of checking that route first even though I need to take the changer out for them to investigate first.

$100-200 extra well spent IMHO. I'd sooner cheap out on the deck over the trim kit. In fact I was looking at getting the 4400 + metra instead of the 2400 +JDM but put the money into the JDM kit instead - glad I did. I really hate having stuff that looks cheap on the interior since I have to look at it all the time when driving. The metra buttons even look cheap by early 90's Civic standards.

The dual zone climate control button is not available on the JDM kit but it's reasonably simple to take it out from the old unit and reattach it to the JDM kit. I personally didn't do it because I didn't want to risk damaging the AC board and I never used it (until I started reading up on how the JDM kit didn't include it).

I'll try to get some quick pics in the next few days. Just been really swamped lately. In the meantime, check out the double din thread in the audio subforums - very slippery slope...

Sent you a PM for sourcing DD kit.

go the OEM DD route. Much better. The dual climate control button doesn't come with the oem trim but you can take it off and add it to the oem DD trim (there's a spot for it).

here's a pic of mine..

Looks nice man. I have decided to go the OEM route for sure and found a write up on how to put in the dual climate button.

Just shopping around now for the best price, even though it doesn’t seem to fluctuate that much.

Have you gotten any headway on your project of replacing the HU??

And if so, did you ever find out what was wrong with your disc changer? Cause I am currently going through the same thing of all the other functions of the radio are working, minus the cd player. And at my current situation, I dont have the funds to get a new HU.
