Wipers crapped out?

It's been really cold here and the G sat for about a week outside. Started no problem. I drove to Toronto (100km) yesterday in -13 and went shopping for about 2 house. When I left, started up and idled for 30 sec and drove. Hit the washer and the wipers shuddered and very slowly, stated to move across the windshield in a jerky motion. Stopped half way through the cycle. I pulled over and manually completed the cycle, I could feel the wiper kinda moving with me.
When they were in off position I got back in the car and tho the wiper arm. No movement. Anyways, I drove home, no wipers, but didn't need them anyways.
At some point I did smell something like burning rubber for a few seconds.
I'll take it to my mechanic after the weekend, but wouldn't mind some thoughts.
Thanks

Hey stranger!!!

Have you checked the fuse box first?
How were the wipers performing prior? Did they skip or anything like that?
It the washer fluid still able to squirt out?

I posted a you tube video on fixing the wiper a while ago...have a look. I need to do this in the spring.

Before they started to shudder and fail, they worked perfectly. Fluid still squired out. No action at all now. Way cold to do anything outside and I've got no indoor access, unless I go to some underground parking lot. But I will check the fuse.
Good to here from you Bill. Get a new car yet?

Still with the same car for this winter anyways...great start this morning...flat tire!!!!! Thank goodness for CAA and underground parking.
The stupid jack that comes with the car decided to break as I was lifting the car up..(insert a few choice words about Infiniti here).
Still don't know what I want...something with 4wd/awd I'm leaning towards. Have to make a trip to the Autoshow this week.
