Making a LEAP!!
I am finally going to make a leap into getting a '05 G35 6MT.
My current crappy vehicle is a '02 Accord and this been nice to me, but I can't wallow in in its shear lack of handling and performance.
The imenities are okay for the average person, certainly not a driver's car. I want a driver's car and certainly there has been 2 vechicles I have been eyeing at. My first choice would be the G35 and the other would be a Altima SE-R noting that both cars are radically different. The Maxima was not a choice for me as it just looks plain UGLY.
My girlfriend owns a '03 G35 Coupe with the sports package and man does it move. I used to race Z cars years back and this one is certainly a treat!! She has been bugging me into getting one and finally, I have caved in. I am thinking of getting the sedan as I can ride/drive the coupe anytime I want and really want similar performance with the addition of some luxury so the sedan is the choice.
We were thinking of going to the same dealership where my girlfriend bought her G35 as she knows the manager of the dealership, but I am sort of hesitant in doing that because I am looking for a deal and maybe I may get something, but not enough. I will be leasing the car and like the aspect of trading in for new vehicles at the end of term.
I guess what I am looking for is some pointers and advice into wheeling and dealing to get the car I want. I have heard there are special incentives or some sort of pricing programs available, but I am not sure if they are applicable in Canada since they were from the states.
I live in Ontario and there are a couple of dealerships around me and I have gotten a G35 brochure for me to drool on until I decide how I should go about this. My plan right now is figure things out by spring/summer and pickup the car by winter, since my Accord's lease is up.
Thanks

After much procastination, I have FINALLY picked up my black obsidian G35 sedan!! Its only been less than 24 hours and I still have my grin spanning from cheek to cheek. I just can't believe the performance out of the the VQ35DE engine and it just pulls the 3 ton car like feather. The handling is just spot on when you turn off the VDC.
The seats are just perfect too and give the just the support you need for any type of driving including long distance ones. My girlfriend is pissed with me that I got a nicer looking car than her coupe because of the roominess of the sedan, but hey... she can be in the car anytime she wants as long as I am in it at the wheel.
Anyway, enough about the car as we all know its a great machine and I may see you guys at the meets when time permits..
I do have a couple of questions.
1. On the center top of the gauge console above the upshift indicator there is a indicator I guess, that always shows "REV"???? I don't know what it does but certainly must have a use, I don't think its the reverse indication as it never turns off whether I am driving in reverse or forward. Any idea what this is?
2. While having a chat with my dealership during them prepping the car for delivery to them. I asked about gasoline grade for the vehicle given the fact the fuel door states to use unleaded gas but premium is recommended. The person recommends that premium gas be used for fuel economy and for performance as using unleaded gasoline will provide with very poor economy (around 250km per tank) and degraded performance. I also asked if there was any particulare brand of gas I should be using and here are the following in the order he mentioned:
1. Sunoco
2. Esso
3. Shell
4. Petro Canada (not recommended as the quality is poor)
Any thoughts on this?
3. I am going to need winter tires for the car and a friend of mine has a set of brand new Pirelli Winter 210 on 17 inch rims, but they are on steel rims and with a Lexus GS400 bolt pattern. He hadn't even gotten a chance to use them before he sold his car and bought a BMW 7 series. I am wondering will these fit on the G35? or are there issues/caveats that I should be aware of?
4. Whats the break in period for the car? is it 1500k or more?
Thanks all
Eeyore

congratulations on the purchase!
to answer your questions:
1.) the REV sign is part of the shift light unit. Using the push dial (where you reset your gas mileage) you can adjust when the shift light will come on. The light will be underneath the REV sign, flashing red when you are 500 rpm away from the desired shift point, and a full red when the point has reached.
2.) always use at minimum 91 octane is the G. Sunoco #1, Esso/Shell #2, and Petro Canada isn't good for Japanese vehicles. Personally I stick with Shell 91 since it has the EZ Pass/Air Miles program and their 91 gas is developed with Ferrari
4.) According to the manual, the break in period is 2000km.

Okay I found this website to have the information regarding bolt patterms
http://www.megaperformance.com/page/page/968435.htm
INFINITI
G35 '03+ 5x114.3
I30 5x114.3
LEXUS
IS300 5x114.3
GS300/400 5x114.3
LS400 5x114.3
RX300 5x114.3
Now all I have to do is find the rest of the infromation from the person with the tires. Think $800 bucks with rims a good price?
On another note does anyone have RPM shift ranges for the 6MT, or is it best to just go by ear?
I was playing around with the upshift indicator until it became a real nuisance and turned it off. Manual doesnt tell you much except for speed betwen gears up to 3rd.
Just a stupid question...what are clear corners? Are they some sort of body protectors or something?
Thanks

read the manual in regards with the shift point, 1-15km 1st gear, 15-30 second, 30 -60 4th gear, 60-80 5th gear, 80 and up 6th gear. This is the conservative side of course.
Clear corners are clear lense that replaces the ambler lense on the side of the car.

Roughly, 2500 to 2900 when i am driving conservative, but If I was driving aggressivly shift point will be in the 4000rpm or higher depending on the gear. Normal driving 2800 is perfect especially with gas price these days.
