Re: Meet in Alberta?

Hey Gord, What a rude change in weather from last week eh?
The new pic has a little more contrast , looks good. Great what miracles you can perform with 'photoshop'. (nobody needs a 'miracle' more than me. LOL)
Tell me about your camera and the settings you used for this pic. Now that I've read my manual some more, I understand more about resolution and what settings are needed. What I'm not sure of are the results of each setting (comparative pic quality). I shall have to do some experimenting with settings and corresponding pic size to compare qualities.
Also what spare f/cards do you carry? Right now I only have the new 128 I bought, and the 16 that came with the camera as spare.
Can you download movies recorded on the camera to the P/C? I've not discovered that yet. I've recorded some clips on a card along with stills and can download the stills no problem but not the movie.
Sorry for taking all the space on your thread. Just have so many questions. I'll P/M next time....Later....

Re: Meet in Alberta?

Re Photoshop, I'm a rank amateur. I can do very little with it as it's SO powerful, and I don't have time to devote to learning it. (Truthfully, Photoshop scares me! LOL)
Re the camera, I know my way around film cameras, which I still use for serious photography. Technology of digitals seems to advance every 6 months and the price drops. I just bought and use an HP 315, not much camera by today's standards, though I just bought it last Christmas! Very little control over settings. I usually just compose and shoot, hoping that I can at least fix it with software after. That's why I suggested the Canon G2- it's the one I'd buy if I were getting one today- good feature/ quality/ price ratio. My HP serves as a decent basic camera that lets me snap and post, and does well enough on vacations were it really doesn't matter if some one rips me off on the beaches of Mexico or something.
I use my 128 as the primary card for high res, my 8 MB for low res (holds 80, 20, and 10 shots at the different resolutions). Since there is no movie mode on the HP, I can't really help there.
Sorry this probably didn't help you much.

Gord

Re: Meet in Alberta?

I briefly investigated the G-2 you mentioned and liked it. Much more like the A-1 I've used a lot in the past 20-25 yrs.
Size was the deciding factor with the ELPH series- very compact and stealthy. Also has movie clip feature.
Thanks for the help on photog. It's a fun hobby..........

Re: Meet in Alberta?

Keep you eye on the local forums. We may be planning for an Alberta or "Area" Meet sometime in the spring or early summer. Depending on the response, we may meet in Red Deer (for Edmontonians and Calgarians) or even in Canmore or Banff for the great mountainous backdrop to possibly attract those from the Northern States! (idea thanks to telegramsam)

Re: Meet in Alberta?

I plan on it. From talking with the Calgary dealer I am the only ownER of Capri Blue Coupe in Calgary (thus far). I got to see the colour on a sedan plus the mags. Very cool.

I go for my first full on test drive (no manuals in to date, only driven the autos) in 2 weeks time.

Are people driving their G35's in the snow up in Edmonton? Just wondering how they're handling in those conditions.

Re: Meet in Alberta?

My sedan has been doing ok so far with the stock all season tires....VDC will come on but no major problems. I kept waiting and waiting to put snows on but it never really snowed so saved some money there. Not sure how the coupes are doing I only know telegramsam and he has snows on.

Re: Meet in Alberta?

Probably less snow up here than you've had so far! Only 2 real snows before the NY and a few days of icy streets. Some consistent ground cover recently and a few days of deep freeze. Expecting more this W/E.
I've had my Blizzak LM-18s on since late October. No problems with the snow/ice so far and better one time on an icy incline than a Voyager minivan with his all-seasons. EdRedS has been doing okay with his stock A/S tires. The VDC really helps in these conditions. I wouldn't risk driving in your coupe unless you have at minimum a set of A/S tires. Given the big dumps you guys get on occasion, I'd recommend real winter tires. Check out some of the discussion on the Wheels and Tires forum.

Re: Meet in Alberta?

Since the manual comes with performance tires I plan on putting snows on it (I have Blizzaks on my pickup truck right now). That and drive my SUV when the worst of winter hits. *grin*

Haven't seen many G35s on the streets here in Calgary. But every one that I have seen has turned my head.

I did a lot of test driving of vehicles before I bought my G35. BMW 330ci, Audi A4 3.0, Acura RSX, Subaru WRX... and none of them had the looks, power and driving of the G35.

Like I said I am excited and can't wait until early summer.

Re: Meet in Alberta?

Back to a meet in Canmore/Banff. Late April or early May? I would like to give those waiting for their cars a chance so let start throwing around some dates. 350Z drivers welcome as well so pass the word.

The May long weekend will be too busy but how about another weekend in May?

Live for today, life is too short to live for tomorrow!

Re: Meet in Alberta?

Hopefully we can shoot for late May guys, that is when my coupe is scheduled to be here. Actually Warren told me it could be in as early as the end of April but most likely the third week in May. So whenever you all decide to meet I will try to be there. I just hope I have my coupe to show you instead of my Cl type S. Later.....
