Thumbs up Satellite radio in Canada

The CRTC today approved satellite radio services to be offered in Canada through Sirius, XM, and CHUM. There's no word at this point when these fully legal services will actually be offered.

Any idea if the stock radio head unit in newer Canadian G35s would be compatible with the Sirius or XM service, given that this has been available on US G35s for some time now? I realize a roof antennae is probably necessary, however, I'd rather not have to go out and use FM modulation or something of that type to get the service.

I've heard that 3 satellite radio providers applied to the CRTC, but none were approved at this time. Where did you read that they were approved?

I've had Sirius for about 3 years now in my various vehicles, including the G35. The proper satellite receiver is needed to hook up to the G35's satellite wiring in the trunk.
If you don't have the compatible in-dash receiver, you probably don't have the wiring either. In that case, you may need to use a FM-modulator to receive satellite radio in a non-sat radio G35. Most G35's after late 2003 production date, are satellite radio prewired. Check out Gruppes website for the correct satellite receiver that will fit the G35.

It's approved, but the Canadian content laws may make it a hassle for companies to offer the service:

I saw it on the news last night as well. Looks like it may fianally be available in Canada .... eh. But your right with the Canadian content laws, it will be interesting the format they will be forced into playing.

Ever compare a american music video TV station to a comparable canadian version. It's like night and day in comparision to content and entertainment.

I think I'll keep my american content Satellite radio for a bit longer and see what happens.
