I'm originally from Toronto - I moved to SF 10 years ago and just moved back for a variety of reasons. Family, job, housing, people, politics. The only thing I miss is the weather. Folks from Toronto really take for granted what an awesome city this is.

I understand that, but I'm coming from a street parked car in San Francisco, a city where there is no parking and people will floor their cars into your bumper to move you out of a spot. If I was paying $98/month for an '04 coupe in SF then it makes no sense to pay 3x as much for an '03 sedan in Toronto.

In any event I called RBC and got a quote for $1990, which is $165 a month, and they said they can discount it to $1600 ($133/month) if I get my homeowners through them. I am still going to go to a broker but that seems ok to me if I don't find anything better.

Thanks again everyone.

HOLY MOLY! $11,000!!

My BEST advice is to put your name under your parents name. For example, 2003 G35 C will have to go to your father's name as an owner and he has to be the primary driver and then you as a secondary driver. See if that works and I'm pretty sure your insurance will go below 4000. Give a try and if it does work... buy me a coffee and a nice hot looking woman (age between 22 - 25) on the side to chat w/

My girlfriend works for RBC insurance. From what I know Alberta on of the cheapest province b/c you're car insurance is government subsidized. Could be wrong though, would have to double check with her...

You're right Akiramasters, my wife used to work for RBC Insurance in Mississauga and now she is with York-Fire Insurance handling Alberta and the rules over there are totally different.

Actually found for myself the cheapest rate was with RBC, I am 40 married with kids and I am paying about $1600. Which is really stupid as that's only $100 more than I paid for my 99 Civic and only $30 more than my 02 Altima. Considering the G was $52K out the door you would expect to pay more $$.

I argue this with the Mrs. all the time about how we pay so much for insurance but when you really need them, you have to fight for every penny. As if the money was coming out of their pocket, they forget that I have been insured for 24 years without any major claims, by now they owe me a new car.

So just an update - we went with Axa for $1350 a year after a $350 discount for also getting homeowners through them. Going to a local broker in the GTA helped a lot, I'd definitely recommend it and appreciate the suggestion to do so from folks in this thread. A lot of why we ended up with such a good rate is we don't commute (they mentioned that has a huge impact on rates) and our average yearly KM was under 15k.

As for the G specifically, they said that it is classifed as "high value" but it's abundance of safety and security features end up putting it in a similar bracket to lower value cars. Fine by me!

Thanks again for the help everyone.

11000 is a bit too much for 19 years old. That's like my rate when I was 17 with my Prelude. (I had one major at-fault accident too). From my understanding Prelude has higher rate than G35, so 11000 is way too much at your age unless you are a visa student or something. Try TD Meloche Monnex, they offer student discont and offer pretty good rate IMO.
