dealer price for maintenance

Just curious to know what did you pay for regular maintenance schedule. I think that my dealer overcharged me a lot. For the 6000 km service (an oil change), they charged me 49.99 $ + taxes = 57.45 $.

For the 12 000 km service (oil change, tires rotation, checking muffler, checking air filter, checking direction and suspension, checking brakes) they charged me 151.01 $ + taxes = 173. 70 $ !!! They changed nothing except for oil and oil filter.

My dealer is Meridien Infiniti in Montreal. I got g35 sedan 2003.5. Are those prices seems right to you? Is it me who is a cheap bastard or am I paying too much? Any input wil be appreciated.

Re: dealer price for maintenance

Sounds about what my dealer charges bro. Call around to others and see what they charge. Dealerships aren't cheap, but they're reconned to be good and experienced. From what I've seen on this board, most dealers are good.
If your not happy with what your dealer charged you, then tell them.

Re: dealer price for maintenance

Hi Gsedanman!

First, thank you for your reply. Really, I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one to pay those prices. I'm not a mechanix so sometimes I get confused. Maybe I'm missing something. But the way I see it, there's no need to be an engineer to make an oil change. I can do it myself for sure. The only problem it's the damn used oil that I have to carry to Canadian tire. That's why I prefer to pay someone to do it for me. Anyway...

Tire rotation, there's no big knowledge involve in that part too. How much time do they spend for this? Five minutes max. Checking the brakes? They already remove the tires for rotation. Checking exhaust system. They hit it with a wrench and if it doesn't fall down, it's checked? I'm no mechanix but it doesn't seem to me like hard work.

I'm sure that Infiniti staff are good. They know what they are doing. Nobody knows the car like an Infiniti dealer but the way I see it, those prices are unbelievable. I hire a little boy to mow my lawn. He's good and he knows my lawn like nobody else. I'm willing to pay him more than the market to keep him. But the day he will charge me 150.00 $, I will mow my lawn myself or I will hire another mower who will reasonnably price me.

Haha, I here you on their prices. They try to justify those prices with experience and diagnostic tools and the like. To me it's a bit rich and I don't pay it too often.
I'm lucky and have a garage and most tools to do my own service. Even containers to cart the old oil off to the recyclers. But not everyone is so lucky and must look elsewhere. An alternative to high priced dealers is a Quick Lube type shop. There are quite a few of these now and are good from what I've seen. For the price of an oil change (something around $30-35) they'll check all fluids, belts, hoses and filters, also do a cursery check of exhaust, leaks, adjust tire pressures, and give a written report to you. Perfect for someone without facilities, know-how, or time.
One caution I've learned : keep accurate records of service. Nissan can demand proof that regular maintenace was performed to validate your warranty.
Are you in Southern Ontario--GTA, or K-W Cambridge area?

Re: dealer price for maintenance

Hi Gsedanman,

I think I will follow your advice. I know a garage that I trust to be competent and honest. For now on, I think I will ask him to perform the regular maintenance schedule and ask Infiniti dealership only for work under warranty.

For keeping record of the work done on the car, there's no problem. I have to do it anyway for taxes purpose. The car is own by my company and I think because of that, I don't get the same level of service than personal owner. I know it sounds hard to swallow but as an exemple, I ask the dealer If they can provide me a loaner. They said yes. So I planned my morning with the idea that I will get a loaner. I know they don't have to give me one for regular service but once you said to me that you will give me one, give me one! Of course they had no loaner available for me. They were good sport. They paid a rental car company to accomodate me. But I had to wait for the car 45 minutes, filling contract, waiting for car, try to sell me extra insurance, etc. So I get at my appointment half an hour late. It's no big deal but when I get back, I had to wait for my car another hour 15 minutes. For those prices, it's unacceptable.

By the way, I'm in the Montreal area in Quebec not in Ontario. And thank you for your courtesy. This forum is often of great help and so far people are always gentle.

Re: dealer price for maintenance

When I bought my G, I also purchased the life time oil/filter change package from the Agincourt Dealership for $350 including tax ( their listing price was/is $499 + tax for Infiniti vehcles). So I pay nothing now for the oil changes every 3 months, and that 12000km service 1 checkup, I paid about just over $90 including tax, because they have to discount the oil/filter change part. To me, I am still overcharge at $90 for what they actually did, but overall, I think I'll get some value out of this package I bought after 3 years..

G35: Black with Willow/Canadian Premium Package.
Z3: Silver with Red leather interior.

Re: dealer price for maintenance

That is a good deal Stalker. Not all dealers offer that tho. I'd definitely go for something like that given a choise. BTW is that transferrable? Say if you sell like I did within the first year and buy new?

Re: dealer price for maintenance

I doubt that it would be transferrable as it'll be too sweet of a deal if it is. But I can ask the next time I am there...

I thought pretty much all Infiniti/Nissan Dealers around GTA had the same kinda deal. Yeah, it offers a good value if you keep the car more then 3-4 years, but the way I looked at it, or at least what I told them when I negotiate to cut the price down from $499, was because of this program, they were actually getting my "loyalty" for the service done on my G, and since loyalty is priceless, they actually should be paying me to have the exclusive right to service my G for not only the oil change, but all the other maintanence/repair works that they can actually make money of.....well, I didn't win obviously, but I didn't lose either...

G35: Black with Willow/Canadian Premium Package.
Z3: Silver with Red leather interior.

Re: dealer price for maintenance

Richmond Infiniti here in BC charges 188 + tax for the lifetime oil/filter change. I also thought that all infiniti dealers offer that, but since I've never inquired, I'm not sure. I wonder if you can just take your vehicle to a dealer that offers that and ask them if you can buy the package.

Everything's negotiable bro. That promo is designed to attract spinoff business. I think whoever offers it would accept any new customer.
Might be a little difficult to 'haggle' a real good price after a purchase, but worth a try.

Re: dealer price for maintenance

that's a sweet deal. how did you manage to get that? and what does the free maintenance cover? is it just the parts or labour as well.
