Excellent, you are right, that will be a great comparison over the same few thousand miles.
My money would go to the G35 (3.369 lbs, 3.357:1 Final Drive) , and the G35X is (3,650lbs, 3.538:1 Final Drive ratio), and the M45 (3,995 lbs, 3.357:1 Final Drive ratio, V8).
The M45 could surprise us with great gas mileage , I know when C drove to my house his Nav was giving him 10.2 when I saw it.
But then when you get playing around enroute the figures will go out the pipes .

Deane, I will be driving what my speed controller will allow. If I exceed the contollers limits I get a poke in the ribs .

You guys are great.
I like the Mach 2 thing too but I have a co pilot occasionally who provides a dirty look that escalates as we approach liftoff speed - her substitute for the poke in the ribs.

hehe, if you want to see how many times I attempt, warp speed, just check the number of bruises on my ribs when I get there. LOL.
However I have been in the copilots seat and the slip light comes on when K is accelerating and she looks at me and just smirks and says "this puppy just wants to go, I can't hold it back" .

I was trying to bring a "poke in the ribs" (aka: Sue) with me, but no comit yet.

Just so you don't worry, Deane....I'll be doing about 100 to 110 kph on the big hwys....just like everyone else these days.
Funny how super high prices slow people down somewhat. It really does.

Each of the 2 legs (to Quebec city and then to N.B./N.S.) is about 900 klicks.
That'll take about 8-9 hrs/leg + pit-stops..

Piece of cake....

C.

Driving habit for those poor milage cars I would guess. I get 12.4 city and 9.2 highway at 125 kmh. I do not run the snot out of it but I also do not drive it like a Sunday Driver. My wifes FX35 gets better milage than some of these G's, there is something wrong with that.

Just did a check on this weeks fill up. I did about 80% highway at 110-115 and 20% city. I averaged 8.9l/100k or about 32 mpg.
That's actually pretty impressive.

I generally 'go with the flow' to blend in with everyone, and avoid excessive lane changes, but have found that speeds much above 100-110kph will serverely kill gas mileage, not to mention attract unwanted attention from the 'locals'.
It suits me to a T these days to see most people doing just that speed. The few who insist on exceeding the 'flow' will attract that attention and the wrath of the local constabulary.

I'm wondering about the tuning and the gearing of the FX....is it possible it's tuned/geared less aggressively than the G? I know the FX weighs much more than the G which you'd think would kill g/mileage the most.

I've actually done quite well with my Sedan and Coupe -- The Sedan would do well over 30mpg on the hwy, and the Coupe not quite as good.
But add in some city, some cold weather, and anything much over 100 kph, and the mileage goes south quickly.
The M isn't bad either......It'll actually knock off 27-28 on the hwy (so far) and she's not anywhere near broken in yet.

Colin, you've got to be happy with those numbers for the M a this point. You may add 1-2 when she is happily worn in.
I think you're right about the speeds wreaking havoc with fuel consumption. On the post I just did earlier I remember now I did about 150k of that at 90-100km/hr so it worked really well for my mileage.

i'm back..

Finally took the car in for its first check-up. Experience hasn't been great thus far. They didn't touch a few fixes they were supposed to do (window rattle, fix to the 3m bra). They put on a new grill since mine was cracked at first pickup. The new color is horrible (maybe just my opinion), and I told them I didn't want it, and that they should replace it with the orignial silver color (am I being unreasonable?). Anyways, I told them about the poor gas mileage and originally they were going to look into it. Turns out they didn't, and the service guy was talking to me as if I was a kid...some crap about the car being equiped with "jet fighter technology", "nothing could possibly be wrong", etc. I didn't argue, and will wait to see if the mileage improves with time. Still love the car though.

Ken.

Hi Ken,
Finding good service isn't easy these days -- and is the same here in the East....only thing to do is keep at them and show them your not going to accept 'substandard' service.
Gee, you shouldn't have to fight for good service on our rides, but it seems you do have to.

Your new grill has a slightly more yellow/gold tint to it....which I kind of like myself.....but you're the one that has to live with it, and if you're not happy, have them find the original silver grill. I'm sure if they looked, that there's one out there somewhere.
"unreasonable"????? absolutely not! If you don't like the replacement, then they should replace it with the original. Push them....I would. and g/l.

Some service manager's attitudes can leave a lot to be desired. I've experienced that too, and it's frustrating. Again, keep at 'em.
I've been lucky in the past with some service managers I've dealt with here in GTA area....so they are out there, but man, sometimes they can be hard to find.

For what it's worth, to me your mileage doesn't seem too bad in light of what you've told us recently. So I wouldn't be too upset about it. These VQ's are good and powerful engines, but gas mileage certainly isn't their strong suit, and it can be serverely affected by cold weather, warm ups, idling, and of course 'playing' - From my experience, the mileage is there, but you have to be very 'careful' to get it. - and that's no fun at all.

Enjoy the new ride. hopefully your mileage improves for you as does your service experiences.
....and g/l getting that original grill.....let us know how that goes too.

Colin.

Hey Colin,

I'm actually fairly happy with mine on the highway. I find the city mileage dramatically different though. No one seems to have topped what I have been doing with mine! I think those mods suited it well.
I also haven't driven it in the winter so no experience with that.
